Confused about which Brodit for my iPhone 4

Featured Replies

After searches I've managed to totally confuse myself as to which iPhone4 Brodit mount to buy, for my Scout with MDI cable; assuming the MDI passes through music and charges at the same time.

I'm thinking this (with pass-through cable) one will work:

But, I'm not sure what the difference is between that and this one:

The Brodit 516164 says padded

and

The Brodit 516165 says Adjustable holder. Fits devices with skin (NOT for Apple iPhone original Bumper).

So, the 516164 is fixed, and the 516165 is adjustable, meaning I won't have to remove it from it's case each time?

WHAT is the "Original Bumper"?

Anyone? :S

The MDI is found in the glovebox usually, so why would you need a brodit mount?

So that I can also use my Sat Nav occasionally.

If you have a case the one you want is the 516165 (adjustable, non-padded). The padded holder is not adjustable and is not wide enough for you to fit a phone with a case in - also having padding is a moot point if you have a case!

The only reason I can think of why they say the adjustable holder is not suitable for phones with Apple's bumper is because they are made from a rubbery silicone material that might make it hard to put in & remove.

You will probably need to buy an iPhone extension lead as the MDI cable is designed for devices kept in the glovebox and is quite short.

Simple buy a cheapo sat nav for £50-70, which is exactly what you'll pay for a Brodit mount by the time you've bought it & added delivery charges to it.

Keep the Iphone for making calls or playing music.

Thanks Michael. I didn't realise the cable was so short, I'll look into getting an extension.

Thought how you're going to close the glovebox with a cable out of it?

Also why are you ordering from the "States" when you can get the stuff, should you be really that desperate for it here?

I have the first one and it was fine on the 3gs and the 4 :)

Probably a reroute. It seems that hardly anyone seems to make an extender cable yet, after spending an hour Googling, there are a lot of people out there looking for the same thing.

I was thinking that a "standard" Ipod dock extender would do the trick, but there don't seem to be many out there.

Here's one of the only companies that seem to do it:

There are a number of iPhone/iPod extension cables out there but none are made by any major brands and not all of them are fully wired. A few minutes searching and I found this on fleabay which they claim works with MDI.

That's not an MDI cable it's merely an Ipod sync & charge extension cable.

You need a proper long MDI cable otherwise you open it up to interference, then you get more snap, crackle & pop that a box of rice krispies.
