Strange bulb

Featured Replies

Octavia Elegance, front fog lights, to the outside of each fog light is a bulb. Switching everything on and it still don't light up. Is it a day time running light or what? Any help please...............Dave.

Yes - I've got one of these too...................No doubt someone else may contribute, but I personally thought that this is a light not legally useable in the UK. It's got a reflector and it looks as though it perhaps could be a driving light? (As opposed to a foglight.)

However, anything in the UK below 2 feet high can only be used in fog or falling snow.

Or it might be a daytime running light for another market? Whatever it is, it's not wired up in the UK.

Interesting; not noticed this. I wonder if it's able to be activated via VCDS...

piccs please?

Prob Early DLR as the Fabia mkII has them in the foglight cluster

Yep, possible - what year Octy do you have?

I am almost certain this is a DRL.

This is definitely a DRL (Daytime Running Light) and is perfectly legal in the UK.

Whether or not they are activated seems to be completely random, however your dealer can turn them on for you very easily.

Alternatively if you have Maxidot it is also apparently possible to turn them on or off yourself

Or a kindly member with a VCDS.

Yup easily done with VCDS and cornering lights!

Its only possible to turn them on via maxidot if your dealer has already enabled them. All the maxidot option then allows you to do is turn them on or off, but you have to ask your friendly dealer to do their bit first :)

Ah OK then, it's an FL issue :)

Yep, they can be enabled/disabled in VCDS, I've seen the option. So not necessarily a dealer visit, if people want these enabling

its a "Cornering Light" bulb - its NOT DRLs.

At very low speeds, that particular bulb turns on, when u turn the steering wheel.

for example:- turn the steering wheel left at low speed, n the left cornering light turns on.

it comes fitted, but is not activated. only the dealer can do it....at a cost.

It is both a Cornering light bulb & DRL.

When it's activated as a DRL it comes on at about 40% brightness.

If you also have Cornering function active when you then turn a corner under 40kph (25mph) then it goes to full brightness.

It can be activated by a dealer or anyone with VCDS

No, the bulb I have illustrated above as the "DRL" is a 'daytime running light' only. It has a 21W standard bulb (same as the rear fog).

The 'cornering light' function still uses the fog light as with the pre-facelift Octavia's. This can clearly be seen on the youtube link above.

Two bulbs:

Outer bulb = DRL only (if activated)

Inner bulb = Cornering Light (if activated) and Fog Light

I second this as mine works this way EXACTLY!

Outer bulb= DRL

Inner bulb=Foglight/Cornering light

Also add that I found you can activate the cornering lights while indicating.

Meaning steering wheel straight and if your indicating right the right fog will illuminate.

Also for example if your on a roundabout with the steering on right lock and indicate left the indicator on takes priority so the left fog will illuminate.

BIG Nick :)

I stand corrected then :)

Im sure a mates FL worked as i described but i could have got it wrong

Note it down as it's not often it happens :p

But i always admit when i am wrong.

. Many thanks for your replies, I suppose the same answer applies to the spare rear bulb aswell............Dave.

.

Is the said spare bulb on the rear left (passenger side) of the car?

If so then it's for the Second foglight which can be activated with VCDS.
