Scratch repair

Featured Replies

I am thinking of buying an MX5, now it has no rust as it was only imported in 2004 but it has a couple of scratches. The worst of which i have shown below.

Is there anything i could do with this myself as a diy job to tidy it up a bit. Or If i did go to a paint shop what would they do? would it be a full panel job or is there another way???

Looks to me like it's pretty deep, assume you can feel it with your nail.................... :S

You could touch up pen the scratch, leave it to dry, do another layer, then after all is dry, wetsand it back and then machine polish the panel..........

Or if you went down the bodyshop route then more than likely they would re-paint the whole panel and more than likely blend it in to the door maybe.................. :(

Lastly you could get someone like chips away to sort it out for you............

As above, I would try filling it in first with a touch up kit. Heard somewhere that someone tried using an "all-in-one" kit, i.e lacquer and paint in one pot, and gradually built up layers of paint into the scratch using a cocktail stick, as is more precise. Once built up, the above mentioned wet-sanding was then done, and you could barely see anything at all.
