Octavia II noisy tappet(sometimes)

Featured Replies

hi everyone

I have a 2006 octavia 1.9tdi pd with 120k on clock and with full skoda service history.

The car has been serviced by skoda every 10k miles

It was a lease car and drives perfectly well with no starting ,smoke, power problems.

I checked with the skoda garage what oil they were supposed to be using and they confirmed it was 5w40

I have changed all filters (fuel one was well dirty) thanks skoda garage and Mobil 1 has been put in engine with a quality new oil filter

The car does however have an annoying tappet sound not just on start up but over a 15 - 20 mile run particularly on the over run its very ticky. It sounds like one of the tappets is sticking open

But when you drive the car a real distance .......i recently went from south wales to birmingham (90 miles) and a run up to heathrow (140 miles) the engine has got nice and warm there is absouloutly no tappety sound and it sounds as it should.

Does any one have any advice as how to solve this or has anyone encountered this problem?

Any advice welcome

My Octavia II, 1.9 diesel has developed the same problem. 55 plate with 134,000 miles on the clock. Terrible racket for up to 10 miles and then runs fine. Its not using oil and no exhaust smoke. It was serviced by a local garage 4,000 miles ago, for the umpteenth time so I can't believe they'd have put the wrong oil in. I think it's OK, but I don't have the nerve to leave it until the next service in 6,000 miles, and too many of my journeys are under 5m.

I'm going to ask them to put an engine de-greaser in and then change the oil and filter.

I'll let you know how I got on. Have you resolved your problem?

Regards
