Sunroof availability and future Yeti retained value

Featured Replies

Good evening all

Hope I can get some guidance from the excellent contributors to the Yeti forum.

I'm usually found lurking in the Octavia section but the styling and practicality of the Yeti is quite appealing. I've read quite a few of the threads already, so thanks for this.

I currently drive a VW Polo GTI which has been great for the last four years. I do a low mileage approx 6,000 miles pa, so fuel costs do not bother me so much. Time soon for a change though and I need something slightly bigger than a Polo, as that size of car is what I have been driving around for in 20 years, but I must point out that I dont want something massively bigger than this eg Golf/Octavia size is about as big as necessary. We are a family of five with three kids under 6, but the good news is that usually not all five of us are in the car at the same time. This causes problems not because of the number of bodies but the boosters/car seats which take up the space. This may not be resolved by getting a Yeti, but I can live with this and is bigger than a Polo(?).

A few questions if someone can help out, I'm keen to get a 1.4 petrol white Yeti Elegance:

i) Like the panoramic sunroof, see it has been dropped from the options for various reasons, will a dealer accept an order for a Yeti and a sunroof? How will this affect lead time and my trade in?

ii) What is the lead time for a bog standard Yeti as described above without sunroof?

iii) I see plenty of Fabia/Octavia on the road, not many Yeti - concern here is that it is not popular so going forward retained value will be poor as demand is low?

iv) Was initially looking at an Octavia estate (dont need this much space often) which is double the boot size compared to my Polo, Yeti is about 33% bigger, how do current owners feel about boot size?

I am well aware that cars are a bad investment (not even an investment) but do not want to throw my money away.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi BA (or should I call you Mr T.? emoticon-0136-giggle.gif )

From what I know (and the more informed amongst us may correct me), my answers to your questions are as follows;

i) I was told by my dealer at the time when it was dropped, that dealers would not be accepting orders for the sunroof. It is to be re-instated as an option in January 2011 so one would assume that orders for this will be accepted then and not until.

ii) Lead time for a bog standard Yeti seems to vary greatly between 5 weeks to around 12 weeks. Depends where you get it from I suppose.

iii) Quite the contrary! The Yeti is proving to be far more popular than Skoda anticipated causing a significant demand/supply problem. Hence, the above average waiting times on delivery. I agree that we don't seem to see many on the roads yet. Personally, I like that fact. It makes the car more exclusive.

iv) Boot size is not massive but you do get plenty of height so things can be stacked up. The varioflex seating is superb though and allows for a huge amount of storage flexibility. Take all the rear seats out and you've got yourself a van with about 1760 litres of space.

Hope this helps.

Hi and welcome,

my take on your list

Sunroof order would I guess mean a spring 2011 delivery and although very nice adds little to future P/X value.

Probably a bit far for you but I believe James at Allams has some 1.4 TSI's on order, which if suitable could bring down the waiting time, otherwise a nice Christmas/New Year present for yourself.

Don't personally think the depreciation will be any worse than the Octavia probably better as most buyers are likely to be private. As to not seeing many, remember they have not been out a year quite yet and currently Skoda are struggling to keep up with customer demand, having totally underestimated how the motoring public would take to the Yeti. Also the reason I suspect there not advertising them much at the minute as they don't have to.

Mine has the spare option which reduces usable boot space; had no problem going away for a weeks holiday in her with 4 adults.

Hope that's of some help,

TP

Sounds like a Roomster would also meet your needs. Better offers and discounts and I imagine less demand/appeal than the Yeti so availability may be better too. You don't mention 4wd so I am guessing you don't want that.
