Goodbye factory order, hello demonstrator

Featured Replies

Like many forum members the wait for the SM has been a long one. We first encountered the monster back in early April. A shiny storm blue 110 SE diesel was sitting in the showroom of our local dealer. The family went down sat in it gave it  .

We then arranged to go for a test drive in a 1.2 TSi and were very impressed. Despite my initial hesitation about the 1.2 engine the SM pulled away fine with ample power. I had not appreciated how engine technology had developed in recent years, it just takes some getting used to that a 1.2 was pulling a larger car than our existing 1.6 engined car

So we ordered a 1.2 TSi SE in storm blue but with the infamous sunroof. The wait began, we did get a build date, but it jumped back and forth like a yo yo, eventually heading towards a November delivery, but still subject to delay because of the sunroof thingy.

The thing about these long waits is you get time to contemplate the order and wonder if was correct. Like many others I have found the forum a really helpful resource and found out loads of things about the eagerly awaited monster. So, I began to wonder if the 1.2 TSi was going to be right choice for us. Our use will largely be on longer journeys two adults two kids and associated stuff, not so much round town. I read with great interest peoples comments on fuel consumption of the 1.2 on motorways with full loads and started to think we might be better off with a diesel monster.

By this time, the 110 TDi, we had originally seen in the showroom, had now become the demonstrator. With yet another delay in our build week I arranged to test the diesel SM. I was instantly sold. I thought it better to get the engine right and forgo the sunroof. The dealer was really helpful, we looked for a 110 from stock, but these beasts are so shy there wasn't one, either SE or elegance trim anywhere in the UK. The whole thing had now gone on for so long that the 3 month period of the 110 TDi demonstrator only had a couple of weeks to run, We came to an agreement and I bought the demonstrator. The same SE trim and colour we had ordered but now diesel :rofl:and without the sunroof :((maybe next time :o).

Picked the car up, very pleased , finally got my yeti  . I have not regretted for one second going for the diesel. In fact just about the first thing we did was go camping, fully loaded 2 adults two kids, camping stuff roof-box, oh, and the kitchen sink. Over a 190 mile journey on a mixture of A roads, motorway and queues we achieved 48 mpg, I'm very happy :D:D.

Congratulations!!! :thumbup:B)

You think the delay for the Yeti is bad-there are punters who put an order for the new Hyundai IX-35 19 weeks ago still no car, still no sign of it arriving.

Congrats Yetinother, Kitten and I pick ours up on 1st Sept :D

My wife's into the 10th week waiting for a Fabia so it's an across the board thing at Skoda; very much in demand at the moment particularly with the supposed VAT Free offers. Due to be built sometime this week having come forward a little but who knows with the flooding and forced shut downs :S

ho hum good things come to those who wait I believe they say  although it is darn frustrating.

Honest John(The Daily Telegraph Motoring Guru) had this to say when commenting about delays for the Hyundai IX35:-'In £££s Sterling, before any taxes are addded, cars in mainland Europe are about 20% dearer than they are in the UK.Thats why waiting times are long, particulary for VW/Audi vechicles'.

Is this one reason why Skodas are so hard to come by?.
