Wahaay! Had a build week notification

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Had a call from my dealer this week. Having ordered my new Candy White vRS at the beginning of August, I am reliably informed that my car has been allocated build week 40 which means roughly that its assembled around early October.

I'm very chuffed considering I was warned of at least an 18 week wait when I ordered.

Was expecting around late Nov/early Dec but this news is fantastic!

Fingers crossed!

Christ only knows how the system works.

Have you gone for an uncommon colour or full spec?!

I ordered mine on the 2nd of June and have now been told build week 40!!

This really is a complete lottery! :dull:

How much has the Skoda factory floods delayed things then?

According to local press reports, citing a union source, production at Skoda Auto could be disrupted from 13 August because the Grupo Antolin Bohemia factory, which supplies roof systems to the OEM, was badly damaged by a flood over the weekend of 7-8 August.

Skoda is reported to be currently using stocks from Antolin's warehouses in Mlada Boleslav, but according to local daily, Mlada fronta Dnes, it is also trying to source some headliners from a factory in the Russian Federation.

Grupo Antolin makes roof systems for all of Skoda's models, except the Yeti, in the Czech Republic. It is also a supplier to Volkswagen, Audi and BMW cars.

Weekend rains are also reported to have disrupted operations at Denso and Benteler. Plants were not flooded but many workers were unable to attend work.

I Spoke to SUK yesterday & they are saying no delay, orders are far exceeding expectations.

I would recommend that anyone who is given a build week, also gets the order number from dealer, then checks back 2 weeks later.

I was told week 38 build 5 days after order on 24 July, I was advised yesterday that its now wk 42, so dont get too excited.

I order an L&K 2.0 CR TDI 3rd august and have got build week 49!. Only extra a spare wheel. Once the car was in the system I was however able to change the colour to Candy White. According to SUK this is not possible but the factory accepted the order and the build week remained the same. Will wait to see what happens closer top the time.

I have read somewhere petrols are usually quicker in terms of number of build weeks!

Not sure about that mate but if its true then happy days for petrol heads.

There is a weekly print out that the dealers get and it shows the expected delays for particular engines etc which is often the major delay factor.

Diesels were taking a week or 2 longer and the new 1.2 TSI factorey line was working flat out.

One wonders if Audi then VW and then SEAT get priority as their profit margins may be more for VAG.

Anyways this list the dealer has and it changes weekly or so.

Must be fun changing the tooling etc for Right Hand Drive cars every so often. KPMG reckoned that RHD added 6.6% on LHD I recall. If we only swapped like Sweden did about 20 years ago.

Hope my 1.8TSI is brought forward as missus does not allow any eating in her TSI VRS hence journeys take longer, tortoise and the hare!

You've certainly got a result there. I ordered mine on 30th July and am still waiting for a call from the salesman with the build date :( . I really will be ready for it when it arrives as I'm still using the borrowed Daihatsu Sirion 1 Litre 3 cylinder :dull: . Mind you it does have one benefit over my old Octy vRS. When you accelerate on a wet road beleive it or not I suffer no axle tramp! :giggle:

Coming up to 43 years since they changed.

Well its only verbal at the moment so I'm not getting too excited. Not until I get the call saying "your car is here and ready for you".

Impressed by the salesman's contact as well. Cheers Craig.

True to his word he called me exactly a fortnight later to update me on a build week and ensured I would be updated every two weeks of the build progress.

Hi All

My dealer told me that petrol models are built quicker than diesels. I ordered my vrs FSI on 11 July 10 and have this week been given build week 38 (13 Sept) so should be taking delivery at the beginning of Oct. Can't wait.

Was told by the dealer today that the expected order to delivery time now on a vRS is around 25 weeks. Thank goodness mine is built should be on the boat tomorrow , was only on dealers to choose my reg no.:giggle:

Done a search on "Skoda factory flood". Its not good reading when it comes to delivery times. Perhaps the wait is going to be even longer . I'll be phoning the dealer tomorrow.

Coming up to 43 years since they changed.

Does't time fly, must have read it as a kid. Good move by them.

I don't think their road infrastructure was quite as developed as the UK in 67. I don't really mind us being RHD, but I guess it would be more annoying if we had a land border with LHD like the Swedes.

I'm not sure if RHD has too much effect on cost as India is a big market now for Skoda and they are RHD.

LHD is a hangover from a tyrant called Napoleon I believe, so I am willing to accept the minor inconvenience in the name of freedom!

Happy days, deales has phoned me to let me know my VRS is in the yard, its in race blue, just standard, but then again its a jump up from an astra, got my reg, insurance and sunglasses, roll on the 2nd after work im going to collect my mew toy, someone let my wife know ill be back late, very late :rofl::rofl:

  • 2 weeks later...

Good news apparently my build week has been brought forward by 2 weeks!

Email received:-

"Good afternoon Duncan,

Your car is currently due to be built in week 42, end of October. There has been delays due to large amount of orders, but the factory are building more cars so that the delay is reduced. The week build is not confirmed until 2 weeks beforehand."
