Bottom gearbox mount

Featured Replies

I have had a problem since owning my Felicia in that it makes a horrible rotational frinding noise when and only when a thouch of throttle is aplied. I have been advised by several on here that it might be the gearbox mount being worn with age giving exess movement and therefore making some noise. I am not too sure about this, but i have just bought a gearbox mount from Jorliy as it was only £15 and its worth a try.

My question is that the pic on Jorliy shows only the mount that attches to the car and not the connecting bar or the mount to the gearbox itself. Has anyone else ordered a mount from them and what does it include? And is there anywhere else i can order the other parts of the mount from if there is still exessive movement?

Cheers

Usually the bit that goes is the bit that Jorily sell - the connecting bit that fits to the subframe hasn't ever given me any trouble,, anyway. It's a dead easy fit (15 minutes or so if not less), so give it a go and see how it goes - I think it'll probably do the trick if it's the usual on/off power "thud" that people describe. Skoda may or may not still do the other parts you need, should you need them.

i dont't know if you can still get the metal part of the mounting that attaches to the subframe but you definitely still can get the bush

It's been less than 10 years since the Felicia went out of production, so the parts should still be available through Skoda - don't expect them to have anything you want in stock, though. I forget whether the 10-year support thing is actually mandated by law, but I can say I've been ordering various bits and bobs far more obscure than gearbox mountings through my local dealer with no problems.

yes that is true to a certain extent robin ^^ but there are lots of parts which you cannot get any more from skoda

Heh. If you want to own a car that you can still buy spares for from the manufacturer;

-that are held in stock

-that are produced on a regular basis

-regardless of the age of the vehicle (parts still made for vehicles built before first world war, etc)

Then there is only one automotive company that provides this service......and it's even part of VAG.

Bentley FTW!

My Father owns a classic rolls-royce (bought 10 years ago as a barn find, and has been slowly restoring it ever since)

All parts are still available off the shelf from bentley (hell, they'll even build you a new chassis if you ask nicely)

Sooo.......if one arm of VAG can manage such an outstanding feat of customer service, someone might like to suggest to skoda that they do the same. Especially as the parts department at crewe is reputedly not only self-funding, but manages to turn a rather large profit......

Haha, If only it were that easy to pick up parts. I have tried GSF and Eurocarparts for severeal parts for the Felicia so far and they dont stock them at all. Thank god for the internet.

anyway, I am not holding out much hope as the noise isn't really a thudding noise, but more a rotational noise, but its worth a go i guess :)

Funnily enough, I had just finished repling on here and I got handed a parecl. Woo for the quick postage from Jorily :)

Indeed, I suppose it depends on what they define as 'necessary' parts to keep a car running. I guess I've just been lucky with silly things like the alternator cable bracket specific to air-conditioned models. Come to think of it, I've not considered the fact that quite a few of the bits I've been acquiring are for the 1.6 engine, so presumably more readily available.

Anyway, it's nice to know gearbox mounts are still in ready supply, 'cause mine are shot to hell. Must get round to that...

stuff like alternator brackets you will be fine with on the vw engined cars because it is the same bracket that is used on about 20 different engine codes in vw's... stuff which is no longer available is thing which are unique to the skoda chassis, like the bellhousing adaptor plate that goes between the engine and gearbox, engine mounting castings etc, body panels are nearly impossible to get too except for wings and tailgates

It worked!

Fitted the new gearbox mount the other day and yesterday was the first time i have used it since and no more noise :) . Cheers to all who said it was the mount, I owe you all a beer.

Just a side note, anyone fitting one of these mounts you will need a 16mm ring spanner as a rachet does not fit on the nut closest to the bulkhead. I didn't have one and had to go and borrow one :S.

Cheers

Try Butts of bawtry - they usually have lots of felly & favorit panels on ebay...

Butts are a dealer, Tom...

alright then... genuine oe parts... happy? :giggle:

They do lots of genuine OE parts - I've bought lots from them - the internal panels they have are OE, as is the front panel I got from them a while back. They used to be the biggest stockist of fav/fel bits a few years ago.
