Mounting electronic gremlins

Featured Replies

Hello Skoda experts!

I have a number of mounting electronic gremlins with my '51 Mk-1 Octavia Ambiente 1.9 TDI. I'm wondering if they are all related (possibly to the 4th microswitch in the driver's door)

The faults are:

Headlight alarm no longer sounds when driver's door is opened (permanent fault)

Side-light icon on dash no longer lights up (permanent fault)

Driver's window occasionally stops and re-opens by itself when I manually try to close it (intermittent fault)

All doors occasionally lock themselves, even with key in the ignition (intermittent fault)

Back-lighting of entire AirCon panel fails (intermittent fault)

These are concerning, given the possible expense for diagnosis and repair. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

check your fuses.

A lot of what you mention is interlinked to the door microswitch which by the sound of it needs replacing.

this is a diy fix (see guide section) or an expensive repair via a dealer, a new switch about £80ish iirc plus prob about 2 hrs labour.

what he said

Fault 1 and 4 are caused by the drivers door microswitch.

as for 2, do your sidelights actually work? The fuse may have gone. Also, the icon doesn't work if you have main beam on (mine doesn't  ).

The aircon may be a bad connection on the back of the panel. Is it manual or climatronic?

Thanks for this. The sidelights do work - just the icon on the dash doesn't (not a problem particlarly - just one of a number of little niggles)

The aircon is manual and is still fully functional - the back lighting just goes on and of sometimes. Must be a dodgy connection I guess.

Will do a full fuse check today.
