Hi all. I've been a happy Leicestershire-based Octavia TDI owner for four years (and previously a Felicia owner for five years) and been incredibly happy up until now (not with my local dealership, mind, but that's another story...).

Just got back from a 2 week holiday though, and am now getting the WEIRDEST sound from between the engine and the driver's side dash, somewhere below the windscreen wiper mount. I want to say it's a clicking, but actually it sounds more like sparking (no smoke or smell though). It is fairly consistently there (both when ignition on and off) but erratic like spark sounds. I though it was a trapped insect but it is too loud and seems to be an impossible place for one to be. I think it may be something to do with the aircon, but can't find an engine diagram to identify the parts in that spot.

I would love to have at least SOME idea before I hand it over to a mechanic who can tell me what he likes and I won't have a clue if he's ripping me off or not...

Thanks - and love the site.

HI

It's MK2, and bizarrely the sound has stopped as suddenly as it started. everything SEEMS to be working fine. I shall monitor it for now and see what happens. Maybe it WAS some kind of insect???!

(No there is no sign of water leakage)

Thanks for taking the time to ask

Welcome :)
