Removing pistons in rear callipars

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

How do you remove the pistons from the rear callipairs? took min off today as they are going for powder coating next week with my new Octavia mk1 front brakes. the haynes manual dont tell you how to do it.

Cheers

Chris

you have to wind then out anti-clockwise.. although it's not really necessary to remove the piston if you are getting them powder coated, just get them to mask off the fluid seals, piston, bleed nipple and fluid unions

It's not a good idea to remove the pistons, as you can end up with a load of crap inside the caliper or forget which piston goes which caliper. Just mask them up.

cheers for the advice, will push them as far back as they will go then mask up.

Cheers.

make sure that the guys doing the powder coating don't use any cleaning solvents on the calipers too, some of the solvents will attack the rubber seals
