Removing Gearbox?

Featured Replies

I'm hLf way through changing the clutch on my mk1 VRS Octavia, but the box will not come off the engine. I've removed driveshafts on both sides, passenger wheel arch, etc and it seems to get wedged, but I can't see what on. I'm working alone, which don't help but I have no choice.

Any pointers or suggestions?

Cheers :)

is it splitting at all? starter out ?all bolts round bell housing out?..box mounts off? have to ask?

As said above is it moving away from the block at all? if not & you have all the bell housing bolts out it may just be stuck on the dowels,if its separated away from the block it may just be the casing getting stuck on the subframe, maybe try rotating the box as you remove it,i know some people remove the driveshaft flange from the box as this can get in the way & catch on the car when removing the box. This isnt really a 1 man job unless you have a transmission jack to suppport gearbox. good luck, hope you get it sorted.

any joy?

Thanks for the suggestions, got it out in the end. It was getting caught on the sub frame.
