Never really tried to get good MPG

think my average is 35-37 combined.... as long as im getting better than my old Focus ST3 im a happy chappy

But on Sunday i tried my best over 165 mile round trip to see what i could get

10 miles of town driving, 60 miles of a road at 50mph and on the motorway at 70mph with the cruise on the rest of the way!!

On the way up i achieved 49.9mpg combined and on the way back 47.7mpg

I thought it would do more.... i was driving like a grandad closer to 60mpg would have been nice

Oh and everything on the car is running perfect

Serviced oil 5k ago

new fuel filter the day before the trip

cleaned out air filter a week ago

and was running on Vpower and Millers addative

It was probably still in "low mpg / more power" adaption mode.

I drive mine fairly conservatively much of the time and i often pay the price that when I want full power I probably get about 90% and lots of smoke. Whenever I have a rolling road day I always ensure a passionate drive to the place so I get a getter result.

Strange that as I usually get around 60mpg on the M'way if I stick to 60mph in 6th.

Quick question for devonutopia.

I've heard that the fabia has an "adaptive" ecu what does this mean?

sounds a daft question, but have you checked for a boost leak? you can't always hear them if there quite small and it would explain the loss of MPG even when driving like an old boy.

managed 71 mpg (on trip) in mine over 110 miles. now that was driving like an old boy. it was probably only 60 mpg in real figures though.

i got 56mpg avg on a trip to the nurburgring 1340 miles and 2 fast laps 3 people and baggage

Mine will do late 40s around town, driving quite hard and with the aircon on (when it works!). On the motorway, late 50s, regardless of underlying speed. Think something may need to be checked there... :wonder:

definitely NO boost leaks whatsoever.... car doesn't smoke at all and has a 'lot' of power :p

I also got similar MPG in my old black Fabia vRS

Bearing in mind both these cars had cruise control? doesn't this hamper MPG??
