MR2 grinding noise in neutral and in gear at about 2000RPM

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a work colleague with a 51 Toyota MR2. He says he's got a grinding / crunchy noise at around 2000RPM. The noise occurs both in neutral and in gear, and disappears as the revs increase. The noise returns when the revs decrease whether the clutch is dipped or not.

Don't suppose anyone has come across something like this before? I'm not mechanically minded really. My first thought was clutch or gearbox, but he says it happens in neutral and with the clutch dipped so I would guess not...

Cheers,

Mark

Pre-cats? Link

Edit:.. prob not precat, but more than likely a rattly exhaust heatshield.. they usually go around the cat where two pipes merge into one.
