Roofbox reccomendations

Featured Replies

I am after a roofbox from my Octy II. I have the genuine Skoda roofbars 2nd edition (the ones that don't dent the roof apparently). Can anyone reccommend some good boxes for me and provide links, prices and any other useful information.

Thanks.

I have a Thule Atlantis 200 - or did until a friend forgot he had it on top of his X-trail as he drove into a carpark.....

I haven't actually used it on the Scout (bought it for the old Outback), but I wouldn't be without dual side opening and the "power grip" fittgins to the bar, which make getting it on and off much easier than the u-bolt and wing nuts on some cheaper brands. My 2c worth (or should that be 2p?).....

I have a Kamei Corvara which I bought from roofbox.co.uk.

Very pleased with it and can get a couple of roof mounted bikes on beside it if I slide it over.

Dual opening is worth having - if only for fitting the damn thing. I use Thule aero bars and track-slot fittings, as above - much better than U-Bolts.

I have just swapped my estate 07 Octavia for a hatchback and used a Kamei Delphin which was great and would recommend them, mine is actually for sale on ebay now as I don't use it anymore.

Hope you get sorted

Another vote for Thule - mine is an "800" i think.. big enough for travel cot or a bunch of bags, but narrow enough that i can also fit my new thule bike carriers next to it on the roof.

The atlantis is fitted in seconds without any tools - you just wind the clamps open, pop it on the roof, wind them up by hand, job done.

I would second the comments about the Thule Atlantis. See http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/101012-combi-roofbox-solution/page__p__1248971__fromsearch__1entry1248971

Thule has a good application on its website which shows its boxes in place on a range of cars. Think the Passat is the closest to the Octavia.

My advice would be to think carefully as to whether you need a full width or narrow box. I bought a 3/4 width one so I could fit a couple of bikes on too, but I fact I've never done it because of the extra hassle, drag on long trips to France, and the ease of hiring on holiday.

Full width ones are obviously easier to load and carry more. Also watch the clash with the roof aerial - unless you are happy to bend down or remove.

Dont believe a word of that ! :'(

I swapped my roof aerial for an OEM VW sharan stubby - much shorter, reception unchanged and does not clash with anything you're going to carry on the roof..

I don't like the sound of that, how did you get the dents? did you not use the torque wrench? or was it the sheer weight of what was being carried?

I've got a Thule Karrite in black.

I got it from the Towbarman (Tow Equipe I think) on Ebay.

This is it on my Leon on the way off to the lakes.

I use it with the OEM Seat bars which are the same type as the Skoda ones (c. £150 IIRC).

Really happy with the box, good construction and easy to open.

I think the box was around £150 as well, but I wanted a black one.

Thanks for the info, what litre is the box?

No problem :)

It's a 360 Litre.

This is the link to the place I bought it from (albeit their Ebay shop in my case) - Roof Box Link

Thanks looks good. How does the roofbox meet upto the roofbars. Is there some adjustment inside the box to alter the width of the fittings in relation to the bars?

The box fixes in 2 different ways. You can either use the u bolts that come with the box (my method), or the bolts that slide into the aero bars (the aerodynamic versions from Seat and Skoda are this type).

The the box itself has slides, which move back and forth to fit your bars.

When you have found the correct position on your bars - my box had blanking plugs to cover up the holes that are not required and to remind you where to fix it on.

HTH :)

Brilliant, all crystal clear, thanks for all your help.

Quite tempted with the 380 litre version of the Thule Karrite Odessey in black. Anyone know of any good offers?
