After work today I.......

Featured Replies

Had a play about.

Started work at 0230 in Avonmouth and was finished by 1030 so I came home and started to have a play about.

I put my CAI kit back on and ill post pics after I've washed it. Painted black with black pipes looks nice lol.

Changed the gearbox oil. OMG the stuff that came out was black. Looked like engine oil. The new stuff was like water just thicker. Cleaned up and alligned gear linkage.

Went for a test drive to get food and I must say, I love my car, with the new oil and linkage sorted and cleaned up the gearbox sounds sweeter and changes are 100 times better. Its like driving a new car again. One thing I noticed tho is the ends on the linkage are rubber and move about maybe 2-3mm is might need to get some new ones next time.

While doing the links I noticed a rubber plug on the top of the box? Looks like its the fly wheel or somethin in there. Was full of dust and dry. What's it actually for?

I have also noticed the CAI with the K&N filter on is a fair bit quiater than the PX one. Also I can notice that it runs better with it on than the std air box pulls hard and no lag at all. Just need to see what the mpg is now, managed 46 mpg between cardiff-Avonmouth - Huddersfield - cardiff. That was with the cruise set to 68mph.

Sorry to boar you but minor things can make the car feel like new.

Bed time now, work at midnight again :-(

Billy

Haven't you got a steering rack to be fitting mate? :p

No playing with the car for me this weekend, it's in the garage until next week having new wheel bearings fitted :( Off to another members place tomorrow to sort out their secondary air pump though, hope it doesn't rain

The rubber plug in the flywheel housing on a 1.8t covers the inspection hole for the engine TDC timing mark.

I used it on mine when I changed the timing belt..... IIRC there is an indentation on the flywheel you line up with a pionter on the flywheel housing.

Bill.

I am not the only one now that states CAI with a K&N cone is better than standard airbox.

Looks like you been busy Billy, I will be posting a few of the items i have fitted recently

Where are the drain/filler on the gearbox? Easy job?

on the VRS there is a drain plug is underneath the box and can be got at if you remove the undertray. To refill you need to remove the plug that is midway up the front side of the gearbox. Both these plugs are a hex type fitting so you will need a large hex socket or allen key.

Easy job to do. Make sure the car is dead level as the oil will come out quicker than it goes in.
