My Trackday Today (vRS PD170)

Budget? I know the MPS is fast, it's a great family car but tbh even if you mod it to give it more power it will be a good Q car but not a great drivers car IMHO. From what you have said about cars and track days I would have thought your money would have been better spent elsewhere. Specialist Imprezas (type 25/spec C) could be the way to go if you don't mind the chav imagine :D

Budget 7-9k with 3 k for engine/chassis mods.

But what ever i have, it has to be used as an everyday family car by myself and the wife and is our daily driver. so like the vRS it has to do both fast/fun as well as comfy/reliable. it will always be a fast road car before track and the way i mod it will reflect that as well. if i get a bit more space, i might get myself a clio 172 as a track toy at a later date.

I wont buy until i have decided if i can actually do what i want with it. but so far ive found camber plates, castor mods, ARBs, dampers/springs etc etc. so it can be improved on quite alot.

Its not as crap in the handling dept as you would think though. more competent than the std mk5 chassis id say, and if the TG power lap times are anything to go by its not too bad on track. 1:32.2 is not a bad time (same as the mk1 Focus RS which considering they have near identical power to weight is quite good)

If you look above and below by about 1.5 seconds you can see its in with some good company and quicker than alot of hot hatches incl the focus ST, 147GTA, CTR to name a few, so not as bad as you might think. i was quite suprised actually.

172 CUP would make an ideal track toy, I nearly bought one for just such a purpose  Don't mean to critice the 6 MPS, just seems more of a sideways step than a step forward. Plenty of kit though as std and a rock solid car. I actually know 2 people with them B)

it is a sideways step TBH, albeit a more powerful sideways step. it'll never be an out and out track toy, but it will be able to cope and put a sile on the face which is what matters. if it gets boring thats when you need dedicated track tools.

i know youwerent critising mate  , i was explaining my reasoning for looking at them? the vRS has been a hard act to follow, to get a car that can have the same balance of everything

Good read lads and just bought a 09 VRS estate TSI and will be starting to modify it over the next few months. Think i will follow the list specified earlier in this thread and start with the ARB's.

Have a set of 4 pot Porsche 996 Calipers that i never got around to fitting on my leon and currently thinking of whether to sell or keep them and fit them on the octy. Whats everyones opinion on this? Ive read the brake guide on here about fitting them etc. but if i was going to go out and spend over £100 on good pads then minght be worth fitting the kit i have.

I just cant leave a car alone :) and never want to buy a perfect one as what the hell am i gonna do with my time lol. Just start with a good car and crack on :)
