Daft Question - Where is my VIN plate

Featured Replies

I need my engine number, have searched the car for the VIN plate, where does it hide please? 2009 Octavia Vrs?

I'm sure there's a VIN plate on the bottom part of the passenger side B-column on my 06 model (no idea if it'll be the same on an 09), can see if when you open the door. Check there!

its on the windscreen above the passenger side wiper blade( on the mk2 57 eg vRS)

Yup,

Visible from outside car - passenger side bottom of windcreen. On mine (2009) the wiper manages to cover it exactly so you have to move the wiper out of the way to make it visible.

Thanks I found both of those, it has the vin numberbut not the engine number / colour codes etc There is normally a metal vin plate somewhere in the engine bay isnt there with this detail?

The VIN number nowadays is stamped into the metalwork of the car rather than an easily removed/tampered plate. On my Octavia it is stamped into the top of the drivers side suspension strut in the engine bay. There is no mention of option codes or engine code/number. If it is option codes you are after then the easiest places to look are in the spare wheel well, you will find the cars build sticker with all the codes on it, there should be another one in your cars service book. If it is the actual engine serial number your are after then by far the easiest place to look is the V5 registration document, in the blue section on the left side, all the cars details will be listed including VIN and engine type code and serial number. HTH.

Ian.

I'm guessing he wants to cross check the V5 to the actual car?

Engine number isnt on the VIN plate, imagine if you fitted a new engine to your car - then the numbers would never match. Engine number is stamped/etched on the engine block, and is of course on the V5.
