TwinIntercooler

Considering this

But not sure if it will fit AND if there's much point i.e. any gains etc

any help appreciated folks :D

i bought a genuine forge twintercooler from a seat leon thinking it would fit, and although the intercooler and pipe work between the cars are identical, the mounting points are different and thus not interchangable between the cars.

also take into account this is an imitation intercooler. so you have no idea of the cooling and recovery characteristics of the core itself, it might be a real p!ss pour flow rate due to the core which could give your more lag etc etc. it also could make the recovery from heat soak slower if its an inefficient design, which no doubt it is.

this is your engine were talking about, you shouldnt penny pinch on parts like intercoolers, not when its there to keep the temperatures down

stick to the tried and tested such as THS, APR, forge and S3.

hope that helps

just seen your sig! what car and engine have you got. this is for the 2.0 TFSI

Ive got a forge twincooler fitted and the one you are looking at look different on the mounting points to me i will try and atach a photo of mine for you to look at. as for power gains you will see no power gains as such the only thing you will notice is you will not feel any power loss on hot days as the twin cooler realy keeps intake temps low, my vrs with the other mods done performs as well on hot days as it does on a cool damp day, Very impressed with mine and would definately reccomend a forge twin cooler to anyone. bearing in mind this one of mine is a petrol vrs but as far as i am aware the mounting points for the cooler is the same but the pipework will be different. Hope this helps Phil.

Cheers Phil

Saw it and wondered if it was possible to do on my car 2.0 TDi, i know it's for a TFSi, I'm really just looking at "something different" to do to the car

The linky to the ebay item was just as an example :D

As for fitting etc.................i know a guy that'll fix that

I'm now kinda thinking down the water/meth route..............had it on my vRS (for a very short time before selling the car) Cant even remember where i got it from :D

as for power gains you will see no power gains as such the only thing you will notice is you will not feel any power loss on hot days as the twin cooler realy keeps intake temps low,

but it can lead to power gains though when tuned for it and sometimes without.

The vag tuners tend to agree that for every additional oC rise in the Intake air temps equates to 1 Hp loss as a general rule of thump on the TFSI engines.

When logging my car on the first power run in 4th gear from 2000rpm upto 6000rpm my intake air temps rose from a steady IAT of 21oC upto 48oC. so a 27oC. so a potentially 27Hp loss from 1 power run. from there on it took an absolute age of driving below the speed limit steady before the IATs dropped to their original steady temp. my mates stage 2+ cupra with the APR cooler only rose 9oC above ambient in comparison doing the same logging run, and recovered within a minute.

now since the std cooler is so p!ss poor, the timing cant be advance on a remap that much as it will result in knock and timing pull, however if the IATs do not rise anywhere near as much, and recover much much faster, more timing can be applied therefore more power can be gained.

I know my car suffered heat soak after the first run on a dyno every time with losses of upto 30Hp on the other runs if it wasnt goven a long enough cooldown period between runs.

this is from a guy at REVO as well.

Just a wee bump on this thread..............

Found myself a cracking FMIC, slightly smaller (i think) than the OEM one, so i'm going to go ahead with the twintercooler

Will post a progress thread WHEN i get my finger out to start it

I asked FORGE about a Twintercooler for PD140 & PD170 Leons and they said they would eventually but they take on far to much work so takes ages to get anything done :giggle:
