Air Valve?

Featured Replies

hi all,

took my car into garage last week as i had a ticking noise, which i thought was the engine tappets

the mechanic told me its an air valve o/s inner wing & nothing to worry about. its been left as that as he is a mate of mine and i trust him so dont want to spend money for no reason

anyone else had this problem or heard of this?

i have an 03 octavia 1.8 vrs

thanks guys

There are two main places you can hear a ticking on the 1.8T engine

The fuel injectors make a ticking

Also the valve in the top of the charcoal canister behind the headlight makes a ticking (probably what he meant)

Both of these are normal

Think he ment the charcoal filter they are ment to tick so it's normal

my car makes a ticking noises as well. only during acceleration and i thnk mine relates to the boost created. i cant figure it out wht is ticking tho! mine seems to b coming from up by the firewall like under the steering wheel. but it could b from anywhere.

The charcoal cannister stores petrol vapour. It is released into the inlet under control of the ECU. The purge valve on the top of the cannister controls the release and only does so when the engine is warmed up. This is what it is making the clicking noise and your description sounds normal.

I see you are from Minneapolis. I am assuming the evap emissions system on a US Jetta is the same as here in the UK
