Brake pedal switch.

Mike B - I was going to say that, I had this on my Mk1 octy after owning it for just under a year, it was fixed under warranty.

Even now I still cant work out why the glow plug light is connected to the brake sensor emoticon-0124-worried.gif

The reason is the glow plug light is connected to and managed by the engine control unit(ECU), when you press the brake pedal it closes the switch and sends a signal to the ECU to say that you are braking and to turn off the fuel supply, so that the engine cannot push against the brakes. If the brake switch is faulty the ECU doesn't get a signal from it to either say it is open or closed and senses the fault, the way it alerts you to the fact that there is a problem with the switch is to make the glow plug light flash. This seems to be a standard approach from all vehicles in the VAG group, HTH.
