Vrs turbo issues

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been a member here for a while but hardly ever posted.

Now, i was driving home last night, put my foot down to overtake, massive band huge plooms of somke out the back (which is maybe partially burned diesel).

Carried on driving for a bit, but the car is nigh in undriveable; horrific amount of smoke (again, i think this is part burned diesel), the car has no power at all, the exhaust souds to be blowing....but i should stress that it doen's sound deafaningley loud.

You can here the turbo spool then stall, and i guess the engine wont rev due to limp home. it does almost sound like its loosing boost from the intercooler.

So I'm going to take things apart after work tonight (I am technical, no probs with this). I'm just a bit lost as to whether this is a knakered turbo (not really had time to see if oil is everywhere...been a very rished 2 days), a boos pipe that's blown off around the intercooler or a shafted exhaust somehere near the manifold.

I have read thrugh a good few threads but I would appreciate some advice of where to start, so my day can be a bit shorted and get to the beer faster!

Many thanks in advance,

Andy

Sounds like a boost leak from that description...

EDIT: I say "leak" when I really mean it sounds like a hose has popped off all together... :giggle:

good luck.

no problem, the boost pipes on VAGs are an aweful design, get them swapped to stainless as soon as you can IMO, will save you time and money in the long run and give you a lot less problems.

Sounds like a pipe has pooped off

Turbo spools then stalls due to massive boost leak

After a while the ecu will put car into limp mode can sometimes take 10 or so miles

Once in limp mode car wont smoke at all as it turns turbo off so no boost

N/a 1.9 derv ftw!
