Burning rubber smell?

Featured Replies

I have noticed the last few days a smell of burning rubber coming from my o/s rear wheelarch area, i have had a quick look around and cant see anything rubbing on the tyre, any ideas as to what else it could be? I exhaust tailpipe has always looked a little low to me, could it be an exhaust hanger catching? It is solid though. Any other ideas as to what it might be guys? Cheers.

Other Octy drivers have reported this recently, have just tried searching for relevant thread but failed :(

It was only a couple or three weeks ago.

Yeah so it seems :( i don't mind as long as its not harming anything! It does seem to be when using it in the wet. Strange! I wonder if Skoda are aware it seems to be a common occurance??

nope, noticed it on my 4x4 estate. it smells like the tyres to me

Is it due to lowering the car by 100mm? :D mmmm, rubbing tyre smell.

i have an octyrs combi 03 done about 15k in it , no mods done, i have also had the same problem only just started happening recentley

Our vRS has had this smell since we first got it. It has something to do with how hard you drive it as the smell only seems to be there after I drive it, not when the wife does :D

We have taken it to the dealers a couple of times but they don't seem to able to find anything wrong.

Has happened a couple of times on my Octy vRS as well.

I have a winding country lane that leads up to my street and when there is no other traffic in front I give it a bit of welly round them this is when I seem to get the burning smell, I haven't noticed it at any other time.

Wheel alignment slightly out leading to tyre rubber scrubbing?

I did not notice any uneven wear after 19k miles when I changed the original tyres.

The alignment was out according to Michedever but the smell is still apparent even now the car is on new tyres.
