Can I use car without aligning throttle body?

Featured Replies

I've got a rough running when cold problem on my '02 RS. I want to clean the throttle body but I don't currently have access to Vag-Com to do an alignment afterwards.

Can I clean the TB & do an alignment later next week when I can get a lead & borrow a laptop? Or will driving 'un-aligned' damage something?

Thanks

Darren

just leave it plugged in whilst cleaning.

I switch the ignition on, chuck a brick on the pedal and it holds itself open.

Job done :)

as above, aslong as you dont unplug the throttle body whilst cleaning there's no need for vag com. once done i just turned ignition on(without starting the car) let it run its cycle and all is good

Thanks guys; makes sense.

(I might not need to do this now anyway as I've just noticed my leccy fans running from cold; see other thread...)

you dont need to worry you can unplug it and it will be fine there is no need to realign it with vag com people that says you do havent tried lol

Besides if it is out of alignment it will correct itself within a few miles iirc.

i did mine without vagcom, wouldn't start straight away but after a few turnovers it start and was fine and much improved!
