Advice needed new car clear coat issues

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

got my new Skoda vrs this week very pleased with it however it has the normal dealer added swirl marks, the area with the worst damage was the spoiler so after clearing and doing some iron cut I decided I would give the spoiler a buff see which products will be needed and then start early tomorrow with the bulk of the car.

I started with a white pad and a very light Menzerna finishing polish. After i had worked in the product as normal i checked the pad and it had turned red, i always thought this was caused when the clear coat had failed? Any advice with what going on :doublesho

Yes you are correct, the colour transfer to the pad would indicate the spoiler hasn't been clear coated...for some reason :wonder:

Obviously on 'older' cars & single stage paints this is normal but not on a modern car.

Out of curiosity I'd try a new/clean pad on the rear bumper..obviously this is the only other plastic part on the rear of the car just to make sure it's just the spoiler which has slipped through the net.

yep just checked its just the spoiler. will phone skoda

any one else seen this

Not seen that, but the spoiler is painted with a different paint to the rest of the car. The spoiler is painted wth a paint that will adhere to the plastic and not crack when flexing, something which the standard paint does not do very well.

The spoiler must have some coating on it, otherwise it will be dead flat and not have any shine on it at all. You may not have much joy with the dealer, since they could now blame you for removing whatever coating was on there with your buffer.

I would have waited for the paint to settle down for a month or so before even letting a buffer near it, the car is brand new from the factory just a few weeks ago and the paint may still be soft.

the spoiler had buffer marks on it thats why i decided to try and fix it. Maybe a repair by the dealer?

Does the underside of the spoiler behave the same way?

I could imagine a cheap repair for transport damage only painting the top of the spoiler.

will give that a try. good idea. and yes i agree thats what it looks like to me now, quick fix repair

Ha glad you had this issue too - mine was exactly the same! My spoiler was terrible when i picked up the car and got the polisher on it and turned red.

Has put my mind at rest though knowing yours is the same!

The red does seem to suffer from swirls though hence why i bought a DA!
