Anyone has an Octy with the good ol 2.0 8V engine?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just joined the community. Haven't seen many people with the 2.0 8V, jus wanna ask. :)

See quite a few in at work, were popular.

I did until about three weeks ago......

Ross is of course the best guy to ask for technical queries, but living with that engine for just over three years, I might occassionally be of help.

Cool. The car was bought in 01 and it's running fine most of the time, I do feel that it likes drinking engine oil and noisy over 3000rpm(not that you should use it that way anyway lol, used to floor Honda engines :D ). This is the only English speaking Skoda forum I found over years.

Oil consumption is quite common, usually caused by the piston rings.

A little is OK but if it starts getting to much you may get lambda probe faults. Generally the biggest problem with them (and alot of other cars these days) is the tend to get pootled around in, qucik trip to the shop here, nip down to the garden centre there. They just get clogged up with fuel.

don't think my car has that problem ross :D

neither does the nova, poor little thing. shed just gets used and abused. right little slut of a car

I found that the oil level was fine, until I took my eye off it for one month - the oil level light flickered when i went round a corner. I ignored it, then the same again three days later. Checked it, was drier than a dry thing in the dry season.

Filled it, was perfectly happy.

Don't know to this day where the oil went..........

But like Ross says, oil use in the old 2.0 unit is not unusual.

IIRC, every VAG group car we had (E Reg Polo Ranger, D Reg Golf both 1.3's, a 1.8 K reg passat) all had a certain love for the thick black gold..........

The old Golf was notorious - the oil would find it's way into the oil filter.........

Ahh, the good old days............

I've got the 2.0 8V in my Octi - hooked up to a 4-speed Auto.

It's used a little bit of oil in the 3 months/3000 miles since I got it.

Anyone know what the difference is (in litres) between the min & max marks on the dip-stick for this engine?

I too have a 2.0 8v

find it adequate for my requirements but oil does need regular checking

How do you normally deal with the creaks? It doesn't matter that much but just doesn't make me feel good. These little glitches are the hardest to fix since nobody knows what extacly is causing it.

Not noticed a great deal of creaks tbh - other than the seat (cos of my fat behind)

Have had a few comments about it sounding a bit diesel like thou

Semi - Snap, My parents had one in dynamic blue. Not too bad, but I got a real fright when I was driving along and cold see the fuel gauge move at a similar pace to the speedo. I drove it between Braintree and Chelmsford on fumes and turned everything off that I couyld to give me enough petrol to get to a petrol station.

The difference is normally 1 litre in any car

I have a 2000 model 2.0 octavia. Driven almost 100tkm.

It seems to use oil alot. A bit over 1000km it uses almost

the whole marker on oildipstick. But other than that its fine.

Well, it could give more power being 2 liter engine. (only 115hp)

Ahh yes, the fuel economy. Nothing happens for the first 80/90 miles, then whoosh!

I brimmed the tank one fine morning, loaded my dad and grandad in it, and then drive o Cambridge. Indicated using just over 1/4 of the tank.

Result I think.

ON the way back, it moved. Oh did it move.

The fuel warning light came on and I floored it from Huddersfield all the way to Rochdale, and I was definitely on fumes as I coasted into the TEsco petrol station in rochdale. Almost didn't make it. Must have been all the hot dogs at Duxford.......

Whilst I admit the fuel gauge is a tad non linear and the trip computer's 'distance to empty' read-out is somewhat over cautious, I'm quite happy with my Octy's fuel consumption.

On the daily trundle to/from work (23miles each way) I average 33-34mpg. (Calculated from the amount of fuel I put in, not the computer read-out). That's on a combination of about 15miles A-road / 8miles urban travelling at the speed limit wherever possible.
