Another Dead vRS

Featured Replies

Well I knew something was going to happen as on Saturday, the car was running lumpily and when sat at idle, it was revving at 1000rpm rather than 800.

So this morning, it started first time got round the corner and then died refusing to start.

The RAC laptop diagnosed a faulty coolant sensor and a strange error code saying something about the differential lock!

Needless to say, the car is now being towed to the new Skoda garage in Warrington and I need to find an alternative way of getting to the airport this lunchtime!

Well it needs a new ECU.

What kind of **** car needs a new ECU after 3 years?

I was going to buy another Octavia soon but after an ECU and a wiring loom (last year) I might not bother.

Steve

I think they have misdiagnosed it.

There are plenty of similar threads with that engine on here.

could be anything, with out proper hands n eyes and harrypotters magic. the answer can onlybe guessed at

Thats one crazy fault.

Hope its not an expensive fault.

Sometimes if you have had a car services properly with the dealers, once a fault happens out fo warrentee sometimes they offer a goodwill **Id ask about this if they offer a bill

IE.. something breaks £1000 to fix inc labour.. they may knock it down to £500 as goodwill as you have always serviced it with a dealer.. My other half works for VW and has that in motion with alot of customers

Seriously there are loads of threads on here with PD170's having a dealer say new ECU, but it actually being fixed by a much cheaper repair.

If you've got the car back, I can come over to Warrington and do a VCDS diagnostic scan for you, see what can be found...

Thanks all.

I've just got back from abroad. It's a co. car so Lex have bent over £800 for a new ECU.

Steve

Hmmm - ah well. Think I'd still go with the general consensus that it probably didn't need one! But I guess we'll never know for sure.

If it's a company car I wouldn't worry about it :)

Ooops, if it's the fault others have been reporting then it will be back again soon enough (either that or a dealer fixed the cause and did the ECU too, just for the extra ££, but I doubt that to be the case)

It had a new coolant temp sensor as well.

What is the other problem?
