Yeti and A2 finally side by side!

Featured Replies

First time I could take pics of a Yeti and my A2 side by side! Spotted this beast in our campsite's reception area in the Lake District this past weekend. The owner was nowhere to be seen as he/she had probably gone walking after cycling - there was a mountain bike inside.

It is a fair bit wider than the super narrow A2:

And that boxy back end will mean I can pack a lot more stuff in there:

Owner of the Yeti must have been abroad recently as he/she has acres of black tape over the headlights!

And also note from a previous discussion that the Yeti does NOT have an upright windscreen. It is at about the same angle as the A2's which has a 0,28 Cd (versus the Yeti's 0,37 Cd)

The difference in the cv can rather clearly be seen from the pics. Notice the long slope in the roof of the A2 and the low spoiler, which is there to define the upper limit of the turbulence behind the car. The spoiler on the Yeti is not so obvious, but it is there - built into the top of the boot door.

Air flow is close to laminar along both roofs, and the spoiler is located to maintain that.

My impression is that the Yeti front and sides are very well designed from an air flow perspetive - hence the low wind noise - but there ain't much you can do about the square stern.

Yes but she's got a great ass hasnt she ??

The A2 is quite small compared to the SM. I wonder how tight the boot space is?

By the by can you still get £2000 for cars over 10 years old? If so you should change your Yeti ASAP!! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

An interesting observation..............

Your new Yeti has the letters 'TDi' on the back in silver but mine is in silver and red???

TD are silver but the 'i' is red. The significance of that denotes the top of the range model or so `i was told the other day by a man walking his dog. :dull:

I don't think it denotes trim levels, it relates to the power output. I have a 2L 140 TDI Octavia, it has the silver TD and red I, there is another Octavia diesel at work, a 1.9 TDI, that has the silver TD and I. I would think on the Yeti that sliver TD and I indicate the 110 bhp engine, the silver TD with red I indicate the 140 bhp engine and a silver T with red DI indicate the 170 bhp engine, would anyone with a 170 TDI Yeti please confirm or disprove my theory?

Terfyn the A2 is high in demand at the moment due it having been so far ahead of its time (in terms of frugality and being made of aluminium) so its value has increased lately. So it is worth FAR more than £2000 thankfully! And won't ever want to see it being crushed. A future classic like the A2 needs someone to keep looking after it.

As to the boot: the Yeti's boot is 416 litres sans spare wheel and 322 litres with the spare wheel fitted and the seats in their rearmost position. The A2's boot is 390 litres and I don't know how much after you fit the false floor over the spare wheel... (say 310 litres?) So the Yeti's is slightly bigger without pushing the seats forward. And when you do the sizes are listed here. So yes the Yeti's boot is really way too small for its overall gain in size. BUT remember this measures the boot space below the window line...
