Same problem a couple of moths ago, called Skoda assist ( RAC ) and they said dodgy sensor, replaced same for free as under warranty, but told me if i had to pay the cost of sensor is 40 quid.

To be honest could be a lot of things, the Check Engine Light is a generic warning that the ECU has detected something and logged a fault code, the fault could be anything. Could be something cheap like a hose come off somewhere or something more expensive like a failed ECU (very rare by the way).

The only way to tell what's wrong is to have a fault scan done by a dealer or someone with VCDS software via the diagnositcs port, you'll then have the error codes logged by the ECU. Until you know what the specific error codes are its like looking for a needle in a haystack.

If you don't want to take it to a dealer, there are quite a few friendly folk on here with VCDS who may be able to help out.

Hope its something at the cheap end of the scale.

Hi

will my car be driveable

Hi

will my car be driveable

I don't see why not unless it is already showing some running problems. As mentioned above, it is not an exhaust warning but a general CEL (check engine light) which could mean anything.

E.g. in mine, the rear sensor for my catalytic converter sometimes triggers this. It makes no difference to the running of the car and then goes out after a day or two.

If yours stays on then it is worth getting the dealer (or someone on here with VCDS software) to find out what the fault code is that is triggering the CEL; then you will know what to do and folks on here can help you. Until that time it is impossible to say anything other than 'there is a problem'. However, it may be very minor especially if there are no symptoms when driving so don't panic. On saying that, sooner is better than later for getting it checked out.

thanks for that

I have had this on for a week, no funny noises and no change in the drivability (real word?) so I am going to ignore it, I have to get a new DMF anyway so will ask them to check it then. Tried to convince wife that it is the buy new car light but still working on that.

Hi

I called the RAC out in the end and they traced the fault as a lower voltage problem. They cleared the fault and luckerly its not come back on again.

It should be called the paranoia light, glad it was not serious for you.
