Worn suspension bushings in Fabia VRS...

Featured Replies

I've just been to a 'National' tyre place to have things checked over (after another tyre place 'Kwikly-Fitted' some two new fronts and made a pigs ear!). I suspected problebs when things were shaking a bit abnormally at higher speeds.

As well as the two front tyres being out of balance (10g/0g on one tyre and 70g/90g on the other!), they noticed there was a lot of play in the front wheels when applying a bit of force in a fore / aft motion.

The guy said he didn't know the spec, but didnt think this was normal. A little bit of play say 2mm is okay, but mines were going back and forward about 5mm.

The cars 6 months old with 16'500 miles.

I'm pretty sure these guys werent 'at it', as they recommended taking the car back to the dealer to get the bushings checked under warranty and back to the other tyre place to get the balance sorted. No charge either which was a bonus!

Its pretty shocking about the dodgy tyre fitting job, and all previous comments about not taking "a wheelbarrel to Kwik-Fit" are taken on board!

What worried me more is the front bushings, is this a common thing? Should there be that much play and will this be covered under warranty?

Cheers

Ross M

If its fore and aft I wouldnt worry about it. They are designed to move that way for take up of drive. But fi you are concerned take it in for a quick look.

Put money on it that its proberbally down too speed bumps if you have them where you live?

Had my bushings and Anti roll bar replaced causeof damn things... go over them at the snails pace of speeds and still come crashing off the damn things

Yeah, no harm in getting it checked out - I don't think the tyre and suspension 'specialist' would have mentioned and got me over to take a look if he didn't think it was unusual. He said it didnt look right, but did admit to not knowing if this was normal or within spec for the Fabia VRS.

I don't have a huge amount of speed bumps around where I live and would say that I have probably went over an average amount of bumps for a car doing 16'500 miles. I do live in the Stirling council area that has been awarded the infamous title of "Worst roads in Scotland" - with almost two thirds of roads in a state of urgent repair :( This could have something do to with it maybe?

I'll get the dealer to check it out before worrying any more. As for Kwik-Fit...8.30am - Monday morning...I'll be waiting!!

Been back to Kwik-Fit today about the above wheel balance issues.

Just taken the car for a decent spin up the motorway - the vibrations are actually WORSE!!! :thumbdwn: :( From 60mph onwards the steering wheel shakes about all over the place! I'll be back there tomorrow so they can have another go, but I think this is going to get a bit annoying and tedious!

They also mentioned about the exessive play on the suspension bushings. The local Skoda dealers closed till Wednesday, so I'll not be able to get it looked at until end of this week.

I'll NEVER go back to a quickfit fitter as they fitted the wrong exhaust (!!) totally wrong year of car, quite obviously wrong, came off twice (years ago now, fortunately). Tires were ok though, didnt get them balanced.

These days I use my mates garage who has proper balancing equipment and so on, definitely sorted out my R100 as that shakes to bits over 60mph with unbalanced wheels (or low or uneven tire pressures for that matter) and I tend to drive at the higher end of the speed limit on motorways (after a minute or so to get there).

Boy will the Furby make THAT a lot more enjoyable :D
