Cam belts are every 4 years (so over due)

The biggest single issue with the Superb is water ingress through the pollen filter housing seal (look at the stickies and my blog for more info).

Personally I would walk away from a car that has had water ingress issues as it can get very expensive and a PITA to correct.

As for the engine choice the best engine available in the MKI Superb is the AWX 1.9PD 130 by far.

HTH.

Also if you do buy 2.5 and it needs the timing belt done, get a couple of qoutes first, you may be suprised how much it costs, IE a lot more than the 1.9  Cambelt interval is 4 years as said above, or every 80k miles AFAIK.

Not sure if the price is good or not, they seem to vary so much. I paid 4.5k for my 2.5Tdi Comfort 20 months ago with 48K on the clock for comparison.

Just make sure everyhting works i.e all the electrics particularly inside the car (lights). The damage to the CCM through water ingress through the pollen filter housing is well documented on this forum.

Drive the car ensure there's nothing untoward (creaks, groans and bangs etc) and that it pulls strong. If auto use the Tiptronic and ensure the changes are smooth. The torque delivery is pretty much linear across the rev range which is not like the punchy 1.9PD.

Check its registration date to establish what VED band it will fall in, anything after March '06 (I think) will fall under emissions (expensive) rather than the old PLG scale.

I absolutely adore my V6, not the most popular choice amongst us MK1 owners but I can't fault it. Bit thirstier than the 1.9 but I love that V6 note when it gets on song.

Absolutely agree - I love my V6 TDI.
