Joining the ranks this week

Featured Replies

I've arranged for a 12 mth old Superb 2.0 140 SE to be delivered to a local dealer (due to arrive later this week). Subject to inspection and a test drive I'll be joining the ranks of Skoda drivers.

The car is just phenomenal value for money and with acres of space.

Given the dealer is arranging for it to come from another of the group's locations (400 miles) should I expect to be able to haggle? ;)

Welcome to Briskoda! :)

Went to the garage tonight and test drove along with careful inspection.

Car is just what the doctor ordered and we collect (all shiny and smelling nice) on Friday evening.

So why, after owning Fords, Peugeots, BMWs, Mercedes, Mazdas, Vauxhalls etc etc did I decide on a Superb?

I embarked upon the search for a new car thinking I'd like an A6 or E class or 5 series estate. Checked them out and found them a little too expensive unless I want an older one, with 60k miles. Then checked out the saloons. Given we go camping, I rather suspect the cool box alone wouldn't go through the aperture in the boot.

Started, therefore, looking at the Mondeos, Vectras Accords etc and was getting quite serious about spending my money on one.

I then compared the Octavia Estate and saw, quite by chance, the Superb. I thought the estate was a very good looking car but, being still new, there are insufficient 2nd hand models available. I then found out that the saloon / hatchbacks have nearly as much space. I took a while to decide that I could live with the odd looks of this version and set about finding one.

I found one in Aberdeen and the local branch agreed to bring it down to Cheshire for me.

We went over, as I've said, tonight (with my 6 yr old and 8 yr old girls).

The franchise is a Vauxhall dealer. When originally I spoke to the salesman about a Superb he thought I was referring to the trim level on an Octavia - he'd never heard of one.

When we got there this evening I asked what he thought of it, compared to the Insignia. "Blows it out of the water" were his exact words.

My daughters love the space - the youngest one can't even touch the back of the driver's seat with her feet (bliss for me!) and adore the umbrella and the display - they call it their telly.

The salesman suggested I collect on Monday. What, and miss playing with it over the weekend I asked?

Roll on Friday.

ps, thanks for the welcomes.

Finally got the car today (long story). Big smile on my face during drive home.

Frustrated the bluetooth finds my iphone but tells me it's incompatible. Grrrr.

Guess I'll need to get another sim and use an old Nokia. That's progress!!
