roomster scout extra wide tyres?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone - i'm new to this but have a little query about a 2009 roomster scout tyres...

Ours are the 17" alloys that came with the vehicle registered march 2010 BUT on checking our tyres theres what can only be described as gashes in them about the rims of the actual alloy - the tyres are dunlop ones which seem to overlap the alloy rim ??

Any suggestions on what we could change either the tyres for or the whole wheel and what size??

thanks smelly x

Are they "standard issue" Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres?

If yes then IIRC they have rim protection, designed to (as the title suggests) protect the rim in the vent of scrubbing on a kerb. I guess the logic is that the customer would prefer to scrub tyres than wheels?

Hi yes they are the standard dunlop sport maxx tyres - very nice but i'm concerned that with speed bumps etc that that has caused the gashing/scuffing??

Have you got any pictures of the gashes?

Upload them to Photobucket or the like.

Hover over the little icon that look like a polaroid picture above this white box that you type in to reply to a post. It should say 'insert image'

Click it!

then past the URL of your image into that box and then click 'insert image'

Looks to me like someone has had a go at them. I doubt very much that a speedbump would cause damage of that nature.

If it were me I'd be having them checked out pronto at a local tyre place to ensure they're safe

EDIT: just read that you've not had it that long, did it some from the dealer in that state?

well thats a very good question - we picked the car up on sat late afternoon from wales....we looked at the tread but did not study the tyres - we left garage drove 12 miles and tyre pressure monitor alarm came on so stopped and then checked tyres..... took photos and had not choice at that time of day but to drive back to cornwall....rang garage today as its on both front tyres but nothing on the rear

they are obviously not going to admit it was like that already :( but i have told them today that i', getting them checked tomorrow morning first thing!!

thanks for putting them on Jonny5ive :)

choker!!

I answer to your earlier question, you can run 16" 5x100 alloys on the Roomster on 205/45/16 rubber (same as Fabia vRS). I reckon a Roomy on Fabia vRS rims would look quite cool B) Or indeed 5x100 steelies for the winter?

I ran 17" black Audi TT Comps on mine for a while until SWMBO curbed them :'(

cool photos :)

so can you put bigger tyres on my excisting alloys or do i need to take them off and replace wheels and tyres - i must say it is bumpy having those tyres on the vehicle ... i am assuming i have 17" alloys!!lol

the alloys look like the pale blue roomsters but the tyres look low like on the other :( - i just dont know what to do.... very cross with garage - i know we didnt damage them

205/40zr17 84w is whats on them at the moment....do i have to keep the low profile ones?? gosh just shows i'm a girl...change a tyre =yes, know anything about them=no!!! ;)

The wheels you're running at the moment are (by the looks of it) the 17" Scout Alloys. The ride on these can be a little harsh and crashy.

In answer to your questions:

You can not (legally) fit bigger tyres to the exsisting rims as you'll throw out your speedo by too much of a percentage. THIS CALCULATOR IS HELPFUL

If you're looking for a more comfortable ride I would suggest dropping to 16" rims and going for 205/45/16 tyres, which keep the same (within 2.5%) rolling radius as the current fitment you have.

The Scout alloys are avaialable in 16" as well as the 17", though I doubt you'd be able to find a set 2nd hand TBH.

There are plenty of 16" wheels that come up for sale on here that will fit the Roomster and I would've thought you'd be able to shift your 17's no problem as the Scout alloys are sweet B)

Hi and welcome aboard.

wow thanks for the advice - that conversion is cool - what size tyres do you have on your pale blue roomster?? spoke with garage today and they think if i want a smoother ride then i could drop to 195/55 -15 standard for roomsters??

Do you really think i could shift the 17" ones?? its £100 for new tyres (each) :( - it looks like someone paid £360 extra as factory fitted extra for the 17"

Smelly :)

In my opinion the 15" rims that the garage recommend (as on the father in laws blue Roomster) would look out of place on the Scout. As I mentioned you can get the Scout Rims in 16" which would smooth out the ride enough I would have thought.

i am talking to the garage at the moment as it looks like the garage sold me something that was not standard and i bought the car unseen over the phone as we live 220miles away from it - getting tyres checked again tomorrow morning and some prices for non skoda 16" alloy deals - know anyone who wants some 17" alloys?? lol :)
