jerky motion when engine cold

Featured Replies

hi guys, for the last couple of days my x reg 1.3 estate, has been very jerky, as i'm driving along it just seems to keep stuttering as though its getting no fuel, it seems to be when the engine is warming up, once its going it seems ok, can anyone give me any ideas?

I'd imagine it's related to the ignition somehow? My first port of call would be the spark plugs, if spi distributor cap, rotor arm, checking distributor shaft for play, leads, and igntion coil - if mpi coil pack. If the timing chain is noisy then it could be due to this getting slack? Although I am not sure if this would first reveal itself in misfires when cold. Hopefully someone knows better than I :)

first port of call is changing the coolant temperature sensor i'd say

I've been having the same problem with my 1.6 felica. It seems to happen on jouneys where I go straight onto a dual carriageway, i.e. I'm trying to go reasonably fast and the engine is still cold. Could it be something to do with the automatic choke. I'm going to change the plugs, I'll let you know how i get on. Has anything worked for you carlbhoy?
