felicia 1.6 throttle problem

Featured Replies

hi all, wonder if anyone can help me out.ive got a felicia 1.6 and the throttle sometimes sticks on.if your driving along and engage the clutch to change gear the revs stay where they are.this doesnt happen all the time, but often enough.also,in neutral the car is very juddery/lumpy and on starting sometimes the idle revs go to about 1400 revs.ive taken the car to a garage and he says when hes checked it the throttle pot has been fine,(could it be the few times its working?).dont know whether to change the throttle body for a new one,but then could it be the ecu? any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a typical overfuelling problem. Here's some more possible causes:

  • Coolant temperature sensor - even if the gauge reads OK, the other half that the ECU reads may have failed, or there may an intermittent connection
  • Faulty lambda sensor or leak in the exhaust downpipe before the sensor.
  • MAP sensor

Getting VAG-COM on it would be helpful to see if there's any specific fault codes (if a sensor's actually failed), or just to check what's out of spec. I've had the revs sticking on the overrun as you describe due to a cracked exhaust manifold, and general rough running and poor idling, largely down to worn-out spark plugs and a stuck-open thermostat, but particularly bad with the temperature sensor disconnected (oops). There's certainly quite a few simple cheap things it could well be before you resort to the expensive ones like new throttle bodies/ECUs.
