Retro-fitting a car alarm to an Octy

Featured Replies

Octavia base model on 57 plate warranty expires in December. Is there anyone out there who has fitted a 'plip' operated car alarm to a MkII plate Ockty to provide not only extra security but to make the door opening system work on pressing the alarm 'plip'? Dealership advises no alarm system possible with this model but helpful salesman suggests non Skoda alarm system may well be retro-fitted by competent car alarm companies once warranty has expired, for around £100.

What implications would this have on the electrics?? :( I remember having been in a Fabia with such a system and this had been fitted by the supplying dealer as an extra on what was a brand new car.

Do you have central locking?

If yes, then a plipper can be fitted to open remotely. SWMBO had such a system by Toad fitted to a Getz. £100 or so a few years back.Think Toad do alarms as well, but I expect that there will be an adequate security system or immobiliser fitted as standard. Contact your local alarm specialist about fitting but anything, within reason ,can be attached via relays to avoid the canbus IMHO.

I have a Octavia 1.9tdi (Jan'07) Classic which I bought s/h last Dec,my car has central lock but no remote / plipper - I found out that (from this web site) if you turn the key quickly to the right all doors will unlock.

I bought a remote upgrade kit from ebay, only to find out later that because of CanBus it could not be fitted (anyone know any different?) but I also found the firm listed below who can supply;

I live in Jersey but cannot find any local auto electrician to fit one of above, so I have not experienced above produt from Spal.

Yes central locking but not remote central locking on this A5 Classic. Googling Canbus suggests doubts over retrofitting, but asuming you have some previous auto electrical experience I will contact some local auto alarm specialists to see what the consensus of opinion says. Any more information from any other posters out there would be appreciated. Meantime Thanks!!

You can get aftermarket alarm systems that integrate perfectly with CAN BUS systems on vehicles

Have a word with a local alarm installer or car audio specialist.

It may involve VCDS coding to let the car know that an alarm has been fitted.

A few years ago, I bought a genuine Citroen alarm system for my Picasso, which is "multiplexed" (Citroen's description of CANBUS), it installed by simply unplugging multiplugs from controllers, inserting the alarm multiplugs, and then connecting the car multiplugs to the other side of the alarm (just like putting a video into a TV aerial circuit). It installed no problem at all, but didn't work until it had been on Citroen's computer to recode it to say there was an alarm fitted.

Thanks, Mike, that was very helpful, so I will now source an established installer locally here in the Glasgow area.

I'm heading over to Dunfermalne tomoz to have R.C.L retro fitted in my 54 plate A5 tdi classic. Tried a few local & mobile to Glasgow but nothing. Tried TRIX in Dunfermalne & he said it shouldn't be a problem. So I will update as soon as the job is complea. Fingers crossed.
