Failing flywheel?

Featured Replies

Hello,

on occasion when I switch gears from 2nd to 3rd I lift the clutch to biting point, press gently on acc pedal and lift some more clutch slowly (i.e. like matching the rev's to the next gear almost). Done very gently and casually.. I get this burring noise which sounds horrible.. it felt like its coming from the clutch.

The funny thing is though, if I lift the clutch up faster, when booting it or not booting it it will grip and grip.. does this mean the flywheel is going bye bye? I dont hear any rattling etc.. I can quite happily boot it in 6th @ 1.5k rpm without any problems.

That's not the DMF but the clutch release bearing running on the clutch fingers.

oicccc........ I think I understand (after 30mins of googling how a clutch works and what is a clutch bearing and clutch fingers). :D

What would cause this? misalignment of the clutch cover slightly?

Most likely the clutch release bearing is just a bit worn. There will be wear on the clutch release fingers as well. When the DMF goes, it sounds like a giant trying to exit Hell with a very big hammer.
