Evap Canister?

Featured Replies

hi guys,

i think its called the evap canister, well thats what my mechanic said he thinks it is, its on the left as u look at the engine bay tucked up by the wing

basically, mine is making a ticking noise, really quite loud, is this an easy fix?

and what does it actually do?

thanks guys & sorry if i have the wrong name/part

It's supposed to click, don't worry about it.

It's the charcoal canister. It stores the fuel tank vapours in activated charcoal, then releases the vapours into the throttle body housing and turbo intake pipe under certain conditions. When it's running you can hear it clicking. Normally at the end of a long hot drive. You won't normally hear it on cold start up. If it was faulty I'd imagine you'd get a fault code. Nothing major anyway. It's just an emissions thing, as you're not allowed to vent anything to atmosphere anymore.

You can try replacing it to see if a new part is quieter and let us know if you want! But personally I wouldn't waste the dosh. Do a search for more info.
