Servicing deals

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2009 1.9TDI Octavia that is fast approaching 1 year old so I need to think about servicing. I'm on fixed 1 year/10K servicing and do less than 10K miles per year so it's annual servicing for me.

My dealer offers a number of 2/3/4 years plans for fixed cost servicing although I have no idea what they cost (must look into that)

I just wondered if anyone knew of any good deals for servicing or how much one should expect to pay for the first 3 fixed services. It's difficult to evaluate the value of a 3 year deal if you don't know what the 3 services would reasonably cost individually.

When searching for information, I did find the following in Autoexpress:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carreviews/usedcartests/222591/skoda_octavia.html

...checks start at £73 (at 10,000 miles), and then progress to £140 (20,000), £75 (30,000) then £200 (40,000), before the cycle starts again.

which equates to £288 for the first 3 services.

Did you not get the 3-years free servicing that was on offer last year?

No, I didn't order until Sept and I think that deal must have ended by then. I just got £3500 off list price on scrappage.

Fair enough. I guess yours was a ready-to-go rather than a built-to-order.

I'm about to take up the offer from West Sussex Motors main dealer (I think the offer is from Skoda themselves, until end of this year) of £299 to cover the standard 2 year service due in Nov. and the three year one in 2011. I compared the cost with quote from my local specialist (not main) dealer and I think the Skoda offer will save about £100.

The deal would also cover 1st and 2nd year instead if your car is that new and not doing excessive mileage per year.

Nope, it was built to order.

I would have thought a £299 deal should cover 3 years of servicing. VW currently do a deal for £250 for 3 years servicing, so £299 is already expensive, and even more so if it only covers 2 services.

Well my first year fixed service ( not much more than an oil change and checkover really) cost about £120. (Fully synthetic oil)

The second year, coming up now, I was told would be about £260-£270 (these are both at a specialist dealer, not main dealer)

The third year one would usually be much like the first. So I reckoned £390 for year 2 and 3 combined, as against £299 for the main dealer offer.

I have always taken out the Skoda fixed maintenance, servicing and tyres policy. Pay around £30 a month but covers all my servcing and tyres for the next 4 years. Considering the tyres for my VRS are around £100 a corner I feel it is not a bad deal (also covers the cam belt change at 4 yrs as well as wiper blades etc.).

Thanks, that's useful to know

With the 2 year servicing for £299, can anyone help??

I took this out through the dealer I bought the car from (10 plate VRS) on 30th July, but I still haven’t had any confirmation through, and the servicing department have no knowledge of it being taken out. The dealer says I need to chase the finance company but the number he gave me doesn’t work, and I get the feeling he is just fobbing me off as I don’t think he understands how the fixed cost maintenance works. Am I right to keep chasing the dealer or should it be the finance company??

Any advice would be apreciated.
