Window tinting doing it yourself.

Featured Replies

I want to tint the rears in the Octy and I was priced £145 to do it. Now I know you get what you pay for with this sort of stuff, but a quick look on ebay brought up window tints for £5 for a roll or £30 for precuts. Now I am thinking why not give it ago. If it is pants I can always pull it off. So I was wondering how many people have actually done it and is it as easy as the online videos make it look? Also Has anyone tried the precut stuff, if so how acurate where the cuts?

Thanks,

Damian.

I have a mate at work that tried it himself and it looks rather good, hence why I am thinking might give it ago. So where did you struggle with it?

I have done flat windows on the side (crew cab) and rear of a Transit van and TBH they turned out very good. Patience and lots of soapy water was needed though.

I also attended a GB for paint-less dent removal and window tinting, they shaped the rear window film on the OUTSIDE of the window first (with a heat gun) then removed it and fitted it correctly on the inside, the trick here is to use the best possible film available, the cheap stuff will crease easily and look carp.

I would take the fitting offer :D I bought a single precut for my fabia to replace one glass which had been scratched badly.

Even with the glass out it took my mate and I a good time to get this tint laid on right, with no bobbles, and all water squeegied out. Was a tough job and would hate to imagine how long it would take with the glass left in.....

I am rather tempted just to give it ago. Like I can imagine it to be a right and royal pain, but this guy makes it look effortless

How do you define cheap stuff?

I have been looking at this, Tint on eBay

The guy who tints my cars charges extra to take the mess people made off by DIY fiiting

i would never DiY, the pro's make it look easy just pay them you know it will be a top job.

Yep, I agree with letting the pro's do it, after all it's not a lot for a few hours work? I had mine done here, and as I found a still defect on one quater light, all I had to do was take it back for another.

Having just watched that film, i have some questions.

1 how do they dry up all the solution they squeezed from behind the film into the door interior,

2 How many goes did they have a t filming that because it REALLY did not look that straightforward
