Hi just a thaught about underbody sealing..

We are away to receive ou new yeti this week and have been looking into underbody sealer.. Ive used Wax oil on the past and Schultz on my 306 and already rusty subaru justy..

I phoned skoda uk and they said it would be sealed at factory and guarenteed for 3 years.. However this being our first ever new vehicle i want to do all i can to preserve the snow monsters body..Ive heard some people say waxoil is rubbish and it traps the salt and damp in behind?? Any body shop workers who have any tips of a good product to use i.e 3M, Loctite, Schultz, Hammerite, Tetroseal, Dinotrol or am i wasting my time underbody sealing ?? Just dont want the salt to eat my yeti aswe plan to keep it a long time !! Any help/advice much appreciated

Skodas are all welll sealed from the factory. The wax inside the various hollows is recognized as some of the best and equal to any other VAG vehicles. In fact it is not recommended to add any sealer to any inside body parts on the Yeti - you will do more harm than good by blocking drains and interfering with airbag sensors etc.

The underbody is also well protected, and does not need anything for several years. Ther is no real reason to add more to an already well coated underbody.

My Octy from 2005 was sold 4 years later with 120,000 km on it. It was inspected just before the sale, and I havd a very good look underneath while it was on the lift. The bottom did not look any different than when it was first delivered.

Relax and enjoy the Yeti. The first (and subsequent) time it goes in for service, the dealer has to do a mandatory inspection for rust and fix anything that needs fixing to maintain the warranty.

Spend your money on winter tyres instead - or on wine, women and parties if you are that way inclined.

New Skodas come with a 12-year body corrosion warranty (provided it's serviced and inspected properly). Just take a hose to the underbody and wheel arches, and clean any obvious mud/salt/muck off once in a while and you'll be fine.

When I finally parted with my Octavia it was coming up on 10 years and 105000 miles. I hadn't done anything special with it other than washing it now and again, and there were no underbody problems at all - no rust that I could see.

I ran an Octy for 11 years from new. It lived outside and had no rust visible anywhere when I traded it in.

Totally forget any thought of any of these treatments. A total waste of money and you'll probably invalidate your warranty if you drill any holes. The Yeti simply does not need treatment. I have yet to see any modern Skodas (since the Felicia at least) that have any severe problem with rusting.

The best thing to do is make sure that you wash off any salt when it starts being used on the roads with plenty of water and avoid putting a wet car in a sealed up and warm garage. Also make sure that you treat any paint chips before rust gets in. Also make sure to give it a good waxing every six months - not polish but a good quality wax from the likes of Autoglym.
