BSH Rear ARB 27MM

Featured Replies

Anyone on here used a BSH 27mm Rear ARB, they are a good price (£180) and are 27mm as opposed to the usual 24/25mm, was thinking it would work well on a TDI with the extra weight up front....comments? BSH stuff seems pretty well thought of with the MKV owners

Diameter does not tell you the whole story. Torsional stiffness depends on the grade of steel used, the way the bar is bent and the location of the drop link coupling points. If is quite possible for a 27mm bar to be softer than a 25mm bar.

Yes I'm well aware of that, that's why I'm trying to find out if anyone has used one, the BSH stuff is US made as is Neuspeed ( which is superb) and looks like it uses the same mounting hardware as the Neuspeed with greasepoints etc and is three point adjustable.

Not heard of anyone using one on here Dave. But as you say, the BSH stuff is very well regarded.

I went for a 25mm Autotech bar myself, which is proving to be a very worthwhile addition. Extremely light, yet strong too. JBS are a UK re-seller, if you want to take a look.

Cheers Steve, yes the Autotech stuff looks good as does the Neuspeed ones, but they are a maximum of 25mm, I was thinking of going slightly larger at 27mm with either the APR or BSH one as the TDI has a bit more weight up front than the petrol so would probably benefit being a bit stiffer and partnering it with a whiteline ALK, should see a good improvement in cornering.

befoire selling my vRS which had the eibach front and rears set to soft front and stiff rear, i had considered changing the rear bar to the BSH one to liven up the rear end more. i like a loose backend.........on a car when cornering :smirk:

Well I'm pretty sure the PD140 lump is of a similar weight to a PD/CR170 unit and this 25mm Autotech rear has more than improved the standard feel of the car. I've left the std FARB on the front, and set the Autotech to the middle setting on the back.

It's certainly nice and progressive, and the car is now far more communicative through bends and direction changes. That's not just down to the bar I suppose, as I ditched the std suspension for KW V1s at the same time! :) The rear rubber is also due for change, so yes - the rear can be brought into play pretty much on demand :D

So I certainly don't feel shortchanged by going for the 25mm bar. Others will have differing views I'm sure, but I think 27/28mm rear bars are a bit of overkill personally.

Cheers,

Steve
