Loose calipers

Featured Replies

Hi again guys how are y`all ? ;)

Have a question, are the front brake calipers for the favorit/felicia supposed to be firm or is some play acceptable, the first reason I ask is because I really don`t know, and the second is because I can find the brake caliper pins almost in every shop but the bore bushes that the pins go into on the caliper carrier are a different story it seems.

I don`t know, common scene tells me because they are not apart of the forge they can be pulled out and repressed with replacements.......what is up with this do I have to buy the whole caliper carrier as the guy at my nearest skoda auto shop said, or are they suposed to be that way?!

Does anyone know of some online shops that sell them apart from Jorily,I have sent him a query today but have not got a response yet so if someone bought some from him already that would be enough to put my mind at ease, if not,are there any other suggestions ?

They used to sell a kit with the pins, boots, and grease in Skoda dealers.

If you mean play at the point of the pins then this should be taken up when the pads and pistons are in place with the discs?

As far as I can tell the calliper carrier is a solid lump of iron, if the pins don't slide in and out easily some metal work skills (files and varying grades of wet and dry) will be required.

No actually looking at the assembly a second time they should not be taken up when the pads and pistons are in place with the disc, the caliper carrier is not a solid lump of steel, my 20 year old brakes definitely need to be refurbished for proper straight braking again, those pins with the boots and grease kits you mentioned are abundant, but I would end up buying them for nothing if you cant find the bore buses for the caliper carrier as well they obviously will have as much wear as the pins,I am not 100% certain but it would make more scene if the bore bushes on the carrier could be replaced.

I swear if I have to buy the whole carrier that would be such a waste, and its not just money wise, the amount of energy required to re forge something even that small is very high, what is this world coming to :swear:

I sent two one with gmail and the other with my broadband provider, I don`t know there must be something wrong with my routing settings.

Yes I saw those in the pic by any chance do you have the caliper carrier bore bushes they go into can you still order them these days?

On my Favorit when the caliper was binding, I took the carrier off, removed the pins, cleaned the grease out and filed the inside until the old pins slid in and out easily. I then wrapped wet and dry around a file and did that with varying grades down to super fine. Spent ages doing it, but they worked fine after. (I tried hurrying it the first time and it still binded). The way to find out what parts are available to buy is to look at www.vagcat.com (free registration needed). The only parts listed are the pin, boot and grease kits - and the whole carrier with pins, boots etc (parts 3 and 4 below).

Cleaning them out like that would be a great if the car was not so old but the pins are sliding too well because of the wear.

That link that be very helpful thank you for that

Yep that`s what the guy at the store told me and also showed me the exact same picture.

Man I so wish I had an extra caliper carrier so I can prove those bores can come out.

there are no bushes in the carrier it is just cast, and the holes reamed in it I have a new one here and it definatly has no bushes in it, maybe yours has been modified at some time?

the cheap way to stop the rattle is to turn a groove in the end of the pin and fit a O ring to it so it makes it tight again

or fill it with grease :wonder:
