Radio antenna connector broken....

Featured Replies

I took my mfd2 out of the car today to fit a bluetooth kit,

The white antenna connector which goes into the mfd2 was loose, when I unplugged it the wire came away from the actual es into the radio (hope that makes sense)

I've tried to hold the wire into the connector with insulating tape, but it won't hold obviously!

What can I do, as I can't be without the radio, I've no radio reception now at all....

Will I need to get it soldered together again, is this possible?

Help please!

What does it look like then, I though there were only 2 types of FM plugs?

swmbo is out in the car at the mo' but I will post a picture of the plug when she gets back.

I think it may be a Fakra connection - does it look like this?

If you can't get the actual Fakra plug you may be able to fit a standard plug and possibly use an adapter lead

It looked like the top plug:

Right, could you use one of these?

or these

Google Fakra connector - you should find something of use

I will need to modify the plug anyway, as the Stream HU only has one plug and the Bolero has the double Fakra..............

I've had a good look at it in the cold light of day, managed to strip the aerial cable, so I have exposed the internal wire, is there anyway to extend the cable? Perhaps fitting a din plug on the exposed end, then sourcing a din to Fakra connector, I will only need a further 10-15cm to give myself room to work!

It's a standard white Fakra connection

Checking the link attached by Alex, or is it Jen? :giggle: the white connector is for the 'phantom radio with supply' and the black is for an analogue radio :S which one is right for mine? I currently have a single connector on my Stream HU, but the Bolero I will be installing has a double connector as pictured in an earlier post!

This might help?

Errr..............

I had the Stream unit in mine (one aerial connector), and upgraded to a Columbus (2 aerial connectors)

One aerial socket is for FM, the other for AM.

If your not bothered about AM, just use the FM aerial socket on the bolero.

If you want both FM and AM, use this -- I have this on my Columbus and it works a treat

Hope this helps

Mike,

I've spent the morning researching, not sure if you can confirm, but is this connector the one I will need to replace the broken one that plugs in to the Stream? As I mentioned earlier, I have removed whats left of the broken connector and exposed part of the coax cable ready to fit a replacement.

Thanks for the link to the adaptor, a bit pricey though, I did find this is it the same thing, as the single end is blue? It does state its for the the RCD510 which is the VW version of the Bolero iirc.

Yes, and yes, I think that connector will be the right one, it's a female socket you need, and the colour is right. The locating pins are in different places for the different colours, so not sure why there is a blue one on the ebay link. However, that is the seller I used,(link I posted earlier was to show you the goods, couldn't find an ebay link!), and it is the same one I used as the VW RNS510 is basically the same as the Skoda Columbus.

Reception of both AM and FM on my Columbus is spot on with this fitted.

Mike

Thanks Mike, I've managed to get a new Fakra connector from ebay for only 3ish quid delivered, the alternative was over a tenner! The only down side, its coming from China so I will be lucky if I am listening to the radio this side of Christmas. :giggle:

Glad you finally got it sorted, hopefully, oh and it's neither Alex or Jen (my kids)

Cheers, John

Sorry to bump an old topic but I think I've done exactly the same and trying to work out how to fix it, I've looked at the old fakra connector but I can't see how to get another piece of cable in there. Actually having a quick look on the ebay listings I guess another part has broken away as well? Would be handy to know how you got on repairing this.

Thanks,

John
