lighting board socket wiring

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just installed a lighting board socket for my Fabia estate to put on a bike rack, and have a problem - can anyone help?

The instructions for the socket say "lamps on the trailer should be wired to avoid a common connection between pins 5 & 7 of the 12n socket" - that's the R/H and L/H tail lights.

Having not known how to do that I wired it as I thought, but it blows the R/H tail light on the car each time I use it.

Does anyone have a solution?

I'm colour blind (which doesn't help), but I think the wires are:

LEFT LOOM

Black/grey - tail light

Brown - earth

Black/blue - reverse

Black/white - indicator

Black/red - brake

RIGHT LOOM

white/grey - fog

grey/red - tail light

brown - earth

Black/ - blue - reverse

Black/white - indicator

Black/red - brake

Everything works except the blown bulb on the car - any ideas?

Very strange to say the least. Your wiring must be grounding the supply to the RH light, but I would expect a fuse to blow rather than the bulb. Only thing I can suggest is do the wiring as per the instructions to the letter. Either that or have an auto spark look at it.
