"squidgy" noise on ignition turn?

hey all, just a quick question, when i turn the key in the ignition to the point were the dash lights come on i hear a "squidgy" noise? if you could call it that lol now im assuming that this is the fuel pump as it doesn sound like a bad noise but just thought that id double check it :) does every one else have this noise?

My Octavia has been making this noise for years. Dont worry about it mate.

yep me too if any one asks me (i only say this as i have no idea what it is!!) i tell them its fuel being injected into the lines! I repeat..... i have no idea if this is what the noise is but sounds better than dunno mate!!

I call it the "squelch"...

Mrs Grrs SDI doesn't do it though...

I'm guessing it has something to do with SDI standing for Suction Diesel Injection.

But I couldn't expand on that. :D

Not sure what it is, but when my bro bought the Fabia vRS I'm now driving, the dealer told him that you must always do this when starting the car.

Totally normal, my vRS and my ibiza TDI both did it.

I believe it’s the fuel pump priming the lines and pushing the fuel up into and through the small fuel cooler that is the thin grilled aluminium looking item (looks like a mini intercooler) located below the driver’s foot well.
