Columbus Help

Featured Replies

Yesterday I fitted a 3T0 columbus in my FL VRS. It has the original F/W afaik. When i take the keys out the ignition it appears to switch off but you can faintly hear the internals whirring away and if you have been on a long journey then you can hear the cooling fan.

Any on have any ideas on this? I know that there is a battery drain issue on the older Octavia's with newer firmware but I thought that this was only on pre 07 cars. Mine being a 10 and with an old f/w shouldn't have any issues like this?

My Columbus does what yours is doing after every journey but it eventually shuts down after a few minutes, it also wakes up when the car is unlocked/door opened so it is ready to go when the car starts up.

The whirring noise is the hard disk spinning away to itself.

I get similar on my mondeo with it's satnav. After about 15min it stops.

Hmm so how do you know when it stops? I dont get the splash screen either (had it once this morning - Since then on 3 journeys it went straight to the radio screen).

Normally the splash screen appears after a full boot up of the Columbus, if the radio screen is just appearing it sounds like it isn't switching itself off after all emoticon-0124-worried.gif

Will update you in the morning and see what happens if i get a splash screen or not......If I haven't got a flat battery!

I've just gone through the exact same thought process as you have - still haven't managed to figure out when I see the splash screen and when I don't as there seems to be no pattern, but I've had no flat battery as yet - including a 3 day rest on the driveway.

I don't know if this helps or not but I get the splash screen every time I get into the car and turn the Columbus on.

Well tried it this morning - unlocked and jumped into the car quickly and i heard the unit fire up. I quickly turned on the ignition and got the splash screen. It must boot up as soon as the car is unlocked so if you are slow you will not see the screen.

I wonder if it may be something to do with the car needing to know via VCDS that there is a satnav? Something to do with enabling BAP? I don't see the nav on my maxidot (not too bothered about this especially if it locks it out when navigating)

Thats good to know - i will have to find someone with VCDS to get nav enabled on my ECU and see if that makes a difference.

If I also drop a Columbus in with the 3T0 firmware, would I still need coding? I have the factory bluetooth and parking sensors f and r. Ta.

I have steering wheel controls and they work.

@ m0bov Everything will work straight off besides maxidot - its plug and play. Works with climate, bluetooth and PDC
