Purchase deals

Featured Replies

I've just been fortunate enough to spend a whole weekend in a Superb demonstrator... they even found the exact model I am considering buying :)

Needless to say, I was really impressed and quite reluctant to give the keys back at the end. I asked the dealer to knock up some finance quotes, which he has done, but unfortunately the spec I want now seems a little out of reach (or certainly more than I could justify). Currently, the finance is based on an approximate price for my car (a mint 2006 Saab 93 TiD, although the dealer hasn't seen it yet) and the list price of the car I want including a couple of extras.

The spec I'm looking at is the Estate Elegance TDI CR 170 DSG, with the sunset glass, heated washer jets and the auto dimming rear view mirror, approx £27,000 inc metallic paint.

Can anyone offer any advice on driving a good deal... I'm looking at the Solutions plan (3 years then return the car, etc)

I'm wondering whether I should push for...

A discount off the overall cost of the car (drive the deal are offering them around the £24k mark)

Some or all of the extras for free

A better interest rate

The dealer is trying to push me for an order in the next day or so to beat the VAT increase too, so any help to bring the costs down would be welcomed. Oh, and the dealer already claims to have knocked off £1,500, although it's not off the price of the car, nor added to the value of my Saab, so I'm not sure where he's getting it from...!!??

I got 170 estate elegance with sunset, mirror from parking sensors and paddle shift for £24800 with drive the deal...

Did you have any problem with drive the deal with the length of time it took to be delivered?

Also look at Broadspeed, for my car (see full spec below in my signature) they were significantly (£700ish IIRC) cheaper than DTD and MUCH cheaper than any dealer could get near.

Nope.. same time scale as quoted by my local dealer...

I got the price for mine from DTD and the dealer matched it , good stick to beat the dealer with if nothing else , but i have only heard good things about DTD and would not hesitate to use them if it was going to save me money

I went with a online broker (who ordered through a UK dealer, same timescales) and saved over £4k - broker advertises on the What Car site. A smooth transaction all round.

Lets have a name then, £4k is impressive for a car in short supply and from a network that generally won't give away anymore than £1k on a car.

Broadspeed were just shy of £4k off the list price . (also the higher the spec the car is the more you can save)

I went through Carquake for around £3800 off list on a SE170 with a few extras. The car will be pre-registered to a fleet company and I won't see the V5 for about six months. The car will be mine from new. As I anticipate keeping the car for about 10 years, I'm not too botherered about being the first owner.

My local dealer tried very hard but still was more than £1000 higher. On the downside, I'm still waiting - car ordered in June, delivery now scheduled for December.

Why the lengthy delay with the V5, out of interest?

Because the fleet company will be shown as the registered keeper for 6 months.

(the registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner)

Yes this is what put me off carquake. Not sure of consequences of accidents etc. Not something I was happy with to be honest. Also the sales guy at Carquake would not stop hassling me and putting the pressure on over the phone, and it became very annoying.

How do you go about insuring something that is not in your name?

Try phoning James at Allams to see what he can do for you.

Allams are a site sponser, have a look in the sponsers section.

Not had any issues with any of the quotes I have had, they were also no dearer (this despite SWMBO having a £1,400 'accident')

Hmm, there seems to be a lot of support for car brokers, and I've got the prices from Broadspeed, Drive the Deal, UK Car Discount and Buy a Car. The prices for the Elegance TDI CR 170 DSG range from £22,655 to £23,119. The savings equate to between £2,956 and £3,420... quite a healthy saving :)

So, I understand that 30th September is a quarter year deadline for most dealers, and I'm hoping that my local dealer is a bit short on sales this quarter. I'm thinking of playing them with a straight bat and saying I can save £3,400 off the list price and see if they can get anywhere near it. If they get to £3,000, then they get the sale. If not, then I'll have to try and wait until the end of the next quarter... if I can...!

I'll also ring around a few dealers to get their best prices too.

Thanks all, will report back with my findings...!

Superb hatchback 170 Elegance

Options:

metallic paint, 6 CD, heated rear seats, heated washers, floor mats, dimming mirror, towbar prep & single electrics, front parking sensors, wood decor, hanger, plastic boot dish, full size spare wheel.

RRP £25,670

Paid £21,700 [bought through Sonnauto, online broker, who also use the pre-registered route]

Saving £3,970

I bought my wife's Octavia in June from my local dealer, who I have a good relationship with. I approached them about the Superb but they could come nowhere near (only £2k discount max). I notice that Sonnauto's prices have increased since (I bought in April), so it's now better (and safer) to go with BS or DtD.

I wouldnt go the pre-registered route personally i guess its ok if you keep the car until the wheels fall off it but a one owner car is worth more than a 2 owner car especially if the first owner is a fleet company , right or wrong people presume it will be a ex-fleet car and have been hammered by all and sundry

Are people really that naive?

Pre reg can save around £1K - £1.5K , no car with one less owner is worth that much more.If the 1st registered keeper was a car rental company then I would steer well clear of it when buying second hand, most people who are given a company car don't hammer it everywhere, some even look after them as if they owned the car.
