Stereo Message

Featured Replies

When I got to work this morning, I switched the stereo off and a couple of seconds later the letters " AIM 2h " flashed up on the display. As far as I can recall it's never done that before. Switched it on & off a couple of times and it did the same thing.

Anyone know what this is?

(I can't check the owners handbook as it's not in the car)

I can't remember exactly, but I think it's something to do with traffic alerts on the radio. You can set the system to record any alerts, and replay any from the last 2 hours when you return to the car (or something like that).

Sounds like you have accidentally enabled it, but you will need to check the handbook for how to disable it again. If you can't get hold of a handbook before lunchtime, I'll pop out to the car park and get mine.

Yep, that rings a bell with me too. If you're not listening in TP mode, then it won't have recorded any messages, so you won't have heard anything. Can't tell you how to put it back to normal off the top of my head, I'm afraid...

Ahhh. That's probably it.

I was listening to the radio for the first time in ages (normally only listen to CDs) on Monday and it kept retuning itself from the local FM station I wanted to listen to on to Radio1. The only way I could make it stop on the station I wanted was to press the TP button.

I'll have look at the handbook when I get home tonight, try to figure it out.

Cheers

Right, I've just looked in the handbook.

The TP button enables traffic announcements from any station within range to override whatever is currently playing on the radio.

If TP is enabled, AIM (Automatic Information Memory) records up four minutes of traffic announcements (up to nine separate ones), even when the radio is "off". By default, it stores the last 2 hours worth (hence "AIM 2h"). You can play back recorded announcements by pressing the AIM button.

You can disable it by disabling TP (press the TP button again)

If you press the AIM button just after you turn off the ignition then the radio flashes up AIM 24h, so I guess that'll look for traffic messages over a 24 hour period. I'm pretty certain that the Passat I used to have had a similar function, but the button was marked TIM rather than AIM.
