When Should the First Brake Fluid Change be?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone tell me when the brake fluid is due its first change?

My dealer is saying two years. My handbook says three years before the first change and then every two years after that?

Which is correct?

Thanks,

Bouff

Normally two years but they can test it for water content and it might be ok.

08 chassis onwards is normally 3 years now, pm me your chassis number and I can check for you.

Do garages actually change brake fluid as part of the service routine?

PM received from Tech1e: "Your brake fluid is due on 09/2013 according to ELSA. So three years."

Thanks Ross. So the book is right and not the dealer!!

I think Skoda changed it from 2 to 3 year interval at some point during this year 2010. My car was built in April 2010 and delivered in May 2010 but my service booklet (publication dated 11.08) definitely calls for 2 year brake fluid change. Does anybody know if a different fluid is used to get a 3 year interval (like there is different engine oil for variable servicing)? Or does it involve upgraded seals in calipers and other parts of the braking system?

out of curiousity, for those that have had theres changed, what fluid did you use/recommend?

Colsay,

It isn't a three year interval as such - my service book states that the first change isn't required until three years but thereafter it is every two years? Not sure what is so special about the factory fill of brake fluid?

Same stuff, the only reason they changed it is the three year service plans they offered. That way they don't include a brake fluid change.

The service plan is one of the reasons I asked in the first place. West Sussex Skoda are offering the first two services for £299 (i.e. an oil service at 12 months and Inspection Service at 24). The brochure states it covers a brake fluid change at 24 months "if specified within the manufacturers service schedule".

£299 doesn't seem like a very good deal if I won't even need a brake fluid change anyway...

You also need to have the air con serviced too at two years! It's a re gas and a clean add then I was £75 lighter...

Awesome, when you're paying its every 2 years, when they're paying 3 is ok.

Cowboys...

If they're happy that it will do three years at the beginning why can't it then have three year intervals from that point on?

That's not part of the official Skoda service schedule

Only a recomendation.
